I copy my photos from my camera card to an existing folder or to a newly created folder. These folders are located within one parent “Lightroom Photos” folder. All of my Lightroom managed photos are located here. When I launch Lightroom, I must “sync” and “import” for photos to be recognized by Lightroom.

Lightroom has an “Auto Import Settings” function, which allows for the creation of a Watched Folder. I tried to select my “Lightroom Photos” folder as the “Watched Folder”, but I get the message “The auto import folder must be empty when first set up. Please choose an empty folder.”

I want my photos to be recognized without the sync and import steps; much like the mobile app updates to Lightroom. Why have a Watched Folder, if I can’t “watch” the parent folder? Thanks for your help!

Hmmm. That’s interested. I’ve actually never really used the “Watched” folder function other than to test it 10 years ago. Unfortunately I don’t know a fix.
