Volume 1: Course Contents

Course Duration: Over 90 Minutes of Video
Projects / Lessons: There are seven 12-18 minute projects. You can see each one below.

Every video contains the full edit from start to finish. They’re short and easy to watch so you can sit down and actually finish each one, and follow along if you’d like, without investing hours of your time.

Creating a Light "Roadmap"

In this first lesson I’ll share with you how I’ve helped train my eye and how I give myself a little roadmap of what areas I want to improve the light on. (12 minutes)

Beach Edit with Sky Replacement

This is a great example of how to add light when the sun has already set. I even added a simple sky replacement in since I thought it helped “make” the photo. (17 minutes)
[et_pb_before_after before_image=”https://mattk.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/MJK8404-2.jpg” after_image=”https://mattk.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/MJK8404.jpg” style=”style-4″ transition=”fade” show_labels=”on” show_caption=”on” _builder_version=”3.10.1″ _i=”0″ _address=”0.3.0.0″][/et_pb_before_after]

Wildlife Editing

When it comes to wildlife photos I have a few trick I use to help create rim (or edge) light as well as to help make the subject stand out. (13 minutes)
[et_pb_before_after before_image=”https://mattk.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/JK_3757-2.jpg” after_image=”https://mattk.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/JK_3757.jpg” style=”style-4″ transition=”fade” show_labels=”on” show_caption=”on” _builder_version=”3.10.1″ _i=”0″ _address=”0.3.1.0″][/et_pb_before_after]

Wildflower Sunrise

This one show one of the main ways I use Range Masking to help add depth and dimension in areas I want to light, without necessarily making everything look flat and lifeless. (14 minutes)
[et_pb_before_after before_image=”https://mattk.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/IMG_8850-2.jpg” after_image=”https://mattk.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/IMG_8850.jpg” style=”style-4″ transition=”fade” show_labels=”on” show_caption=”on” _builder_version=”3.10.1″ _i=”0″ _address=”0.4.0.0″][/et_pb_before_after]

Rainy Night Street

In this edit, we’ll take a look at a dark and moody photo. Something without a lot of light to begin with. We’ll look at what areas to light and what areas to leave alone. (18 minutes)
[et_pb_before_after before_image=”https://mattk.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/MJK3750-2.jpg” after_image=”https://mattk.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/MJK3750.jpg” style=”style-4″ transition=”fade” show_labels=”on” show_caption=”on” _builder_version=”3.10.1″ _i=”0″ _address=”0.4.1.0″][/et_pb_before_after]

Yosemite Sunset

On my trip to Yosemite one of my sunset shoots got pretty cloudy and took away most of the light. But with a little work, we can add plenty back in. (15 minutes)
[et_pb_before_after before_image=”https://mattk.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/bruge-before2.jpg” after_image=”https://mattk.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/bruge-after2.jpg” style=”style-4″ transition=”fade” show_labels=”on” show_caption=”on” _builder_version=”3.10.1″ _i=”0″ _address=”0.5.0.0″][/et_pb_before_after]

A Window in Bruge

This edit is from a travel photo I took while walking in the city of Bruges. It’s a fun photo, but it lacks the punch and mood it needs to be great.

I’ve watched all the videos in the new course and have been thoroughly enjoying it. You said the course is for advanced beginners. I consider myself fairly expert in Lightroom, but I’ve been getting so much out of the course. I don’t think it matters how skilled you are with the tool. It’s more about a new way to analyze your photos to figure out the best way to edit them. I’ve already tried the techniques on some photos I took yesterday and I’m really pleased with the results. Thanks!

Reviews

I purchased this course this afternoon and am already half way through. You weren’t kidding. Easy to watch. Easy to follow. And I’m seeing results in my own photos immediately. Great course Matt!
Joan

Another course well done, well written and well presented. This one really spoke to me. I now “understand” why you made the changes. And I feel confident about “how” to make these changes. Keep up the good work.
Carol

I love this course. I have already learned so much about making my photos “shine”. I’m watching them all one more time, then I’ll start working on my own ones. Thank you!
Mark

Yes! Thank-you! I know how to use my camera, LR, and PS but sometimes just stare at my landscape work thinking “how do I make this so people will see what I actually saw?” I have a hard time knowing where to begin, and, even worse, when to be done. This course is exactly what I have been needing. Thanks for being such an authentic, intuitive, and KIND teacher. You always explain things in a way that makes sense to me. I so appreciate you!
Seth

In my 89 years I’ve never once paid for a course or even a texture. Never had the money for these treats. But your comments about this course and how you came to do it really resonated with me. It sounded like exactly what I needed and so I took the plunge and I’m GLAD I DID. Thank you so much Matt. You’re a wonderful
teacher and I’m so glad I found you.
