Every now and then I like to do a “5 Tips” video to show off some tips I find people may not have known about. Some of these I’ve known about for a while, but I have to admit that a couple of them I just learned in the last year or so. Enjoy!

Do you have the ability to tutor individuals? I live in Sarasota and would be glad to come to your shop. I assume it would not be you, as I would probably drive you crazy, with my lack of tech savvy.
Hi Paul. I’m not able to do one on one tutoring, as running my business takes all of my time. Thanks.
I tried LR after seeing your talk on the Virtual Summit. Total disaster for me. When I try to develop, the screen looks nothing like the screen you show on how to use solo mode video, which I was unable to activate. When I switch to LRC, half of my photos now show an exclamation point with 3 parallel lines in the right upper corner. When I click on it, “the metadata has been changed by both LR and another application. Choose between Overwrite settings and Import settings from disk. This is an extremely time consuming problem and I have no idea which to choose. As you can probably I am hopeless with technology which is why embraced the LR idea when I heard it. Now I am stuck in the nether world of in between LR and LRC.
I’ve switched over to Lr in the last few months, so I tried these there. As you thought, the Shift click tip to get a scrubby zoom does NOT work in Lr, but if you CTRL drag, you are able to get the little dashed box to specify the zoom area. However, just clicking in an area without holding CTRL, zooms into the area clicked (but without the dashed box).
I also found that the amount of zoom in Lr defaults to the last zoom amount you used. So, if you want a different amount of zoom, you can just click on the down arrow next to Fit 100% (bottom right of screen), and select an amount. Then it will continue to use that amount of zoom whenever and wherever you click.
i’ve used lightroom for 5+ years and I don’t think I’ve seen any of these tips. thank you
Always appreciate your expertise and generosity of knowledge Matt! I also did a review of the prior LRC 5Tips video back from 2021 at your suggestion. That was a good refresher!
Tip 5 the scrubby zoom was new to me. Thanks.
Matt, thank you. Through the years you have helped me so much and I appreciate what you do.
Looking forward to it
Oh my! Simple tips but you were 5 for 5 with me. I learned something new with each of the five tips you shared. Thanks!
Thank you!
Thanks for the tips
Always great info . Thank you
I didn’t know about the scrubby zoom. Very handy. Mahalo.
Thanks Matt
Three of the five were new to me.
Very helpful !!
Thanks very much, I love the scrubby zoom and didn’t know LR had it, very useful!
Thanks Matt…tip #5 was my takeaway…love having that tip I wasn’t aware of available!!
Thank you for sharing these tips! I appreciate learning everything you mentioned – I didn’t know any of these!
Great Tips and ‘refresher’. I never knew about the ‘Zoom’ options in LrC. Thank you.
Thank You Matt! I told my wife that I really need to start using Lightroom and have been wanting to ever since I saw you give a presentation years ago at the Seattle Convention Center, but after using Photoshop for 25 years it has become second nature, and I still haven’t used it yet even though it comes with my PS subscription. Then I told her about your upcoming Lightroom Summit and maybe I’ll start using it then! She said or maybe when you die, you’ll use it in heaven! I responded,” isn’t Lightroom another name for heaven!”
Thanks. Always nicve to get new tips and to refresh skills on ones I already knew.
I’m using a MBP M2. How do I turn on graphics acceleration, please?
Thanks!
Great reminders of things I knew but over the years have stopped using – now exploring even more options – having fun at age 81!
Excellent refresher! Thanks – I forgot about the Develop/View Options and like to use/change that sometimes.
Also, looking forward to the upcoming Lightroom Virtual Summit. It’s always an amazing learning experience.
Got my VIP Pass.
First tip is great … uh, but it doesn’t work here?!
Windows 10 PC all up to date in terms of OS and Lightroom.
Hi Matt
Great to see you giving great tips again.
Can I add one for Zooming?
Whilst you can Zoom to the area you click, Preferences – Interface Tab (Zoom clicked point to center)
It’s really handy if you hold the CTRL key Command on the Mac, and draw an area around what you wish to zoom into.
Please note though it does reset the Zoom scale top left of your screen, just right of the 100%
This works all the way to 1600%
You can single click to the full fit after its use and even CTRL click on a larger area to return to an easer size, 200% etc.
Looking forward to the LR Summit 2024 !
Previous one was Outstanding !!
I’ve been using Lightroom for a while and did not notice the eyeball differences you pointed out. Very useful info. Thanks!
3 out of 5 are new to me.
Thanks.
Small but useful for speedy handling with lightroom, Thanks dear
Excellent – as ever. Looking forward to seeing you at the Lightroom Summit. Thank you.
I really enjoy all your videos and tips.
Thanks, always something new to learn .
Hi Lrc 13.2 tip #3 is not working.
Has it being removed in this late version?
Tip #3 works with version 13.2 on my Mac (key [Opt]), but it doesn’t on my Windows-PC (key [Alt]).
Is there anybody who found out a working key-combination on a PC ?
Great tips. Thanks
Your LR tips are great. Thanks.
Wow. I thought I knew everything there was to know about Lr glad I looked.
Great stuff Matt! All these years on Lightroom and you’ve still found “new” things for me to use.
Thank you, Matt! At least my zooming willl become five times faster.
Thanks Matt!
Nice tips as always, Matt. Thanks
As always you manage to find a tip that will be useful to me. Love the scrubby zoom and can’t wait to use it. Thanks!
Great tips! Especially like the one on zooming, can’t wait to use it.
