I’ve got another start to finish tutorial for you this week. This photo was submitted by Catherine Spangler (thanks Catherine!). I though the composition was really nice and she did everything right in the camera. I just think we can bring out a little more in the photo with some masking and editing. Enjoy!

Learned a couple of tricks … TY
Matt, always good presentation. Thank you,
Matt thank you for displaying and providing your expertise in the edit of my image. It was indeed the leading lines of the field that drew my attention. Being in the Palouse is like entering a candy store for images. I have taken it in several different directions with both color then with black and white. I like what you did by brightening the leading lines and swapping the sky. Ideas for me to look at more closely.
Thanks for sharing your process. It helps me rethink what and how I do mine.
Love the final image
Hi, Matt! Thanks for this ‘mini workshop’. I haven’t gone to LRC, yet, although it’s installed. This has been a great help (after the Summit, btw).
My question is: on the remove, the offending distraction Was removed, but the function added some straw sticking out of the bale. I was surprised at that. Did the function gather that from Your images, or did it pluck those from somewhere ‘in the sky’.
Thanks, Alice (btw: the Summit has fairly much convinced me to try to use LRC. I am familiar with a lot of PS.)
Great before and after video with just enough work done without taking it too far.
Matt: Appreciate the video for the techniques, but would appreciate more of a discussion of your “vision” for the photo up front to better follow “why” you are making these specific changes. At least that’s where I struggle the most. You do a bit of that when brightening the “leading lines”. Thanks!
Love when you do a start to finish landscape photo. Gives me so many ideas as well as possible steps to take when I approach a photo.
Thank you Matt great reminders of a beautiful simpler edit
Thank you Matt. That was very clear and it made a lot of improvements to the picture.
Thank You Matt! I think you and Blake would make a great team for a workshop! I liked your retouch on this image, personally I would have made the bale in the foreground a tad darker.
As an amateur photographer, I find after watching a ton of these videos, I find the after pictures though greatly improved are a tad more saturated than what I am used to seeing in real life. I like to edit my images to see on the screen and paper what I saw when the photo was taken. Now this may be because I have mild cataracts. After I edit using similar methods, when I come back and take a “second look” I generally back off with the saturation. It’s very subjective, but still my preference. I love watching these instructional videos for how to do these edits not how much. Excellent as always video.
