Welcome back to another Photo Makeover. This week I’m using a photo submitted by Ken McClure (thanks Ken!). The photo presents a great opportunity to add some light to it as well as use the (recently) new Lens Blur adjustment. Enjoy!

A brilliant demonstration.Very informative of how to make something out of nothing, and doing it in a very calm way.
Absolutely loved this tutorial. Love the way you explain things, so easy to follow. Thank you.
I watch a lot of your video’s this one is great ,I’ve had to deal with dark backgrounds during a wedding shoot had to deal with the sun making the wedding group dark and hoping for the best I did good so I thank you for helping me with a lot of your video’s
Really great information Matt!! Thanks
I enjoyed this makeover and how you explained your thought process for each step, especially in the use of LensBlur. I’ve used LensBlur before but have really only used it a couple of times figuring out how by trial and error. Your explanation clarified things for me.
Thanks Mark I appreciate you taking the time to explain how this edit was performed
You’re very welcome… Paul.
Mark is glad you like it 😉
Very informative tutorial. Thanks Matt
Excellent. Thank you.
Another excellent tutorial
Thank You Matt,
You have definitely explained some unused features in LR which I have seen, but unaware off their usage.
I live on the Costa Blanca coast of Spain on the Mediterranean.
The mountains in this area are spectacular.
If only I could capture the beauty & depth would be wonderful.
Maybe you could, when you have a few minutes, explain how to accomplish this.
Kindest Regards
Anthony Clark
Great fix to this pic. The masks certainly added the feeling to the scene.
Matt,
Exactly the tutorial I need, having just returned from Costa Rica, and many of my photos were shot in the Cloud/Rain Forests. I’ll definitely be using these techniques to draw more attention to the subject.
Great Information… When layering any mask on top of one another, doesn’t the top mask over take the lower mask? It is not like they are blending together. I start with the largest mask first, and then I need to build on top of that. Whereas an intersect mask is only applied where there is an intersection of the two masks.
They will indeed blend together and amplify the effects if one mask is on top of another with the same settings.
Succinct and impactful a superb tutorial
Thanks, another excellent tutorial. I’m devastated that over the years I have deleted dark images like Ken’s, it would have been great to have another go at them now.
Really enjoy it when you do the critique and then follow up with the edits. Love your show
Great tutorial Matt. I learned more about creative masking.
Love how you made a picture I would have deleted into a picture that would be amazing on my wall.
Thank you, for doing these vidros.
your new AI presets is there a workflow available similar to this
Just masks. So simple and so powerful. Thank you.
Great tutorial, wish I had watched this last night! Ended up doing similar adjustments but had to keep working to find out ‘how to make them work’!
Thanks Matt
Good job, Matt!
Really enjoyed this Matt. For some reason, I cannot get to the tutorials recently through my email link. My system says this is a not a trusted link. Sooooo, I have had to go to your website to get them. Just wondered if others had this problem.
Hi. It’s a bit of an overzealous virus protection software you probably have. It doesn’t like what me email service appends to it. You can always click to let it go thru. They all have an option for this.
Try it on your phone or tablet and my guess is it’ll work. Thanks
Thanks, Matt. Always enjoy your tutorials. Easy to follow with tips for casual as well as commercial users.
Thanks again Matt. I always pick up a tip or two with every video you make. I use your light techniques in nearly every photo I edit. Today it’s thanks for pointing out the focus and blur button/tool in Lens Blur and of course the tweaks to the radial gradient.
As a native of the PacNW, this is great tutorial to help bring out the jewels in our forests. Thank you, great tutorial!
Hi Matt. Great makeover video! I love using masks in LR. I’m sorry to be THAT person but did you record this 2/24? I noticed that you are using LrC in this video. I have only been using LR since buying your video and I have been pretty happy with that choice. Just curious why you used LrC in this video. I’ll understand if you don’t reply. Take care.
Thanks. If I start doing all of my tutorial in LR nobody will watch them. So I have to assume anyone that’s using it knows the settings are exactly the same
Ah…makes sense! Sorry to bother you and thanks for your response. Of course I always enjoy and learn something in your videos! Thank you for all that you do.
I just learned that I don’t need to delete al my overly dark photos. I enjoyed watching how you made a beautiful, creative photo.
You are such an excellent teacher.
As always, well worth watching for inspiration and tips. Thanks Matt!
Thanks, Matt. Nicely done
Thank you – always enjoy your videos!! I think your teaching style is fantastic – I have learnt so much! ?
Always interesting to see how you apply the tools that I love. Had not tried using two radial tools as you demoed, nice effect.
Thanks
Great as always
Thanks Matt
thanks like what you did
