Frequently asked questions
WHERE DO I GET THE LATEST UPDATES TO LIGHTROOM AND PHOTOSHOP APPS?
You can get your apps updated by going to your Adobe Creative Cloud Updater App on your computer. Click the “Check For Updates” button.
If that doesn’t work, try restarting the app or your computer.
Finally, if you still don’t see them you’ll need to contact Adobe as there is nothing I can do to help this.
HOW DO I UPDATE CAMERA RAW IF PHOTOSHOP IS ALREADY UP TO DATE?
Your creative cloud updater app will show an update for Camera Raw v.16.
SO IS THIS IT FOR UPDATES? IT DOESN'T SEEM LIKE A LOT OF UPDATES THIS YEAR?
I’ll agree that the Adobe Max updates were less this year. But think about what you got during the year.
– Remove Tool in PS
– Generative Fill in PS
– New Masking changes in LR and ACR
– Noise reduction in LR and ACR which automatically saves every person who shoots high ISO photos $100 or so, since they no longer have to buy a plug-in.
Just about any one of those features, to me, is worth the cost of subscription because every one of them makes editing better, simpler or faster. I guess Adobe could have held them for Adobe Max, but personally I’m glad we got them during the year so I could use them.
WHY ISN'T PHOTOSHOP UPDATED IN MID-OCTOBER LIKE IT USUALLY IS?
Because Adobe released the update in September. It’s called Photoshop 2024 (V. 25). You can download it through your Creative Cloud Updater app.
WHAT IS THE CURRENT VERSION OF LIGHTROOM CLASSIC?
Lightroom classic is now on version 13.
Lightroom Cloud version is now on Version 7.
You recently joined a group of other creators for Lightroom training.
You produced an opening statement about using the new LR and Bridge in combination.
I’ve spent 3 hours searching YT and listening to your podcast regarding Adobe updates.
Are you planning on producing a training video for your LR/Bridge workflow?
The money for this is burning a hole in my pocket.
Hi scott. I have never said I used Lr and Bridge together.
I used to use Bridge a lot in place of LRC. But once the local
Option came out in Lr that negated the need for bridge. So that’s why you’re not finding it… because I never said it 🙂
My apologies.
Perhaps that’s why I only have your BR mini course?
Personal email:
Hi Matt,
In your Oct. 13, 2023, email you included this p.s.:
“PS: A few of my courses are in the process of being updated and I’ll email those out when they’re ready. The LR System, PS System and Photoshop “How To” Course will be updated FOR FREE for everyone who has purchased. Stay tuned later this week. Thanks!”
I bought both your Lightroom and Photoshop System courses several years ago and have been waiting to see when they would be finished and available for download. In today’s email (Jan. 25, 2024) I see that the course updates are now for sale. How can I get the new versions?
Thanks,
Scott Ashley
Hi Matt,
I am using Lightroom for years and recently I found out, that the new denoise feature is working on camera raw files only, not on DNG files, which I converted all my raw files to when importing them into lightroom. So now I am confused, shoud I import the raw files into Lightroom to use the new denoise feature, which then produces a DNG file and keep both in the Lightroom catalog? And what about all the older files I already have in the Lighroom catalog?
I would greatly appreciate your recommendation here.
Thanks in advance
Hi Matt, I’m a PSE19 user and haven’t ventured to Photoshop and Lightroom yet. I’ve been following you for years and always have learned something that can be used in the PSE format, especially your videos I have purchased.
I’m getting a new MacBook Pro this year and want to upgrade to the PS and LR programs. I’m pretty good at getting around PSE and know a lot transfers over to PS.
I’m hoping that you can steer me to a program that makes the learning seamless….hopefully for the new Photoshop.
Regarding LR I’m mainly thinking of getting it because friends who have it say it has a great system for organizing photos . Basically at this point that’s what I would use it for.
Any recommendations would be appreciated.
I also wanted to thank you for all the courses you did during the downtime that occurred during Covid. I learned sooooo much and still reference my course I purchased during that time.
You’re a great instructor!
Best. Snowdie Brown
Matt, I am a user of Lightroom Classic. I used to use Photoshop with Bridge but switched to Lightroom Classic only. I would like to strengthen my skills in Lightroom and would like to see if I could rebuild my Photoshop skills as well so that I could use some of the newer AI features in Photoshop, in addition to Lightroom. I was also intrigued by your comment about moving to Lightroom from Lightroom Classic.
Which of your classes would you suggest for me?
Hi Jim. My Photoshop System course is meant for beginners to get you to that intermediate phase. (https://mattk.com/photoshopsystem)
My Photoshop How To Course is more of an intermediate course on how to do things in PS for people with experience in it (https://mattk.com/photoshop-how-to)
Hope that helps. Thanks.
Hi Matt, Is there ever a reason you use LR instead of LRC? Just wondered… Thanks!
Hi Lori. They are two programs that do the same thing. LRC is meant for people that want to use hard drive based organization. The other LR is more modern and everything is automatically put into the cloud and available on computer, phones and tablets all at the same time and always synced. It is the future, but the cloud storage is fairly expensive for people with Terabytes of photos which is why most people still use LRC. Plus, people just don’t like change.
That said, LR has made a change that I believe will cause more people to want to use it. Stay tuned as I’ll be talking about this more.
Matt, your email of October 12th mentioned changes to Adobe Bridge (“The other is a very quick one with some new features in Adobe Bridge”). I’m not seeing anything about Adobe Bridge here. Am I missing something? Thanks!
Sorry the video is there now
Matt,
I have used, liked, and recommended your Photoshop and Lightroom courses from their Ultimage 🙂 versions onward.
I don’t know of any other instructor who provides no extra cost updates to your courses. I think I own most of your Adobe based courses and refer back to them numerous times.
Your courses provide a very solid base of knowledge.
I always look forward to new innovations from Adobe and your clear explanations of how to make good use of them.
Dear Matt,
Help! Photoshop and In Design are updating as I am using them and I frankly don’t know how to best learn all the changes. An example: I have updated to PS24 and now I cannot see how to easily crop something. It was easy before. They keep changing everything. I love your teaching and thanks for any advice, Liz
Hi Liz. Cropping hasn’t changed at all. What specifically are you having trouble with.
Matt,
I’ve purchased your Lightroom and Photoshop courses and appreciate your periodic trading videos and know you are a Sony shooter.
I recently bought a Sony A7 IV and would like to know if you use Sony’s Creators’ App and your thoughts on the image transfer to iPhone/iPad and remote shooting capabilities.
Thank you
Thanks Bruce. I don’t use the app and I haven’t ever transferred photos to my iPad or phone so I’m not much help here. Thanks!
