Big Sur Pfiefer Beach
Today I visited the same beach from yesterday’s post (Pfiefer Beach). I didn’t stay right until sunset, because I had another location I wanted to hit, but I did grab a few shots of the sea arch with the sun behind it (and without the foggy cloudy weather).
Yesterday was just so gray that I felt like it worked in B&W, but today’s feels like it works better in color to me.

I’ve got a few stories and gear reviews from this week that I’ll post soon. In the meantime, have a great weekend!
I would love to know what your post workflow was for this image. Can you share?
I think the detail in the rock is better in colour
Matt, I love the swirl of the water in the foreground, what were your shutter speed and aperture? Thanks for all the great info, I just purchased your Layers Book, things are starting to click for me now in PS. Happy Holidays to all- Jim
Thanks Jim.
Aperture: f/22
Shutter Speed: approx 1 sec.
Oh yes – this one is totally a beauty. Love how the sunlight is coming through the arch!
Hi Matt, I personally think it looks better in color as opposed to black and white. I, like Don Bromberg, like the swirling effect you have on the surf. You’re really lucky to be able shoot in that area of the world.

I like the swirling effect of the surf, and the alpine like glow around the arch. I also like the color better than the black & white. I’m looking forward to stories from this trip and the tips as always.
I really like the shaft of light and the movement of the waves.
