In the next video in the “Get the Most From Adobe” series, we’ll take a look at some pretty amazing technology. The only catch is this only works in the “cloud” version of Lightroom (Not Classic), or either of the apps on your phone/tablet.
Essentially, Adobe’s AI technology (called Sensei) will do some automatic tagging of your photos. It’s kind of like keywords but the best part is you don’t have to keyword your photos. The AI technology is actually looking at the photos for certain things and you’d be surprised at how you can search through them.
It’s not perfect and not infallible at this point. But it’s pretty cool to see where the technology is leading. For me personally, I don’t want AI to edit my photos. But any time it can take away production-type work (AKA boring) I’m all for it. Enjoy!
Hi Matt,
thanks for the quick videos. Two questions, can you add keywords to all the photos selected by AI Sensei search as I am not familiar with how to add keywords in lightroom . second have you ever compared the AI sensei with the dedicated AI search plug ins like Excire … would be interessting to see the results & differences . Thanks & greetings
Bjoern
Hi Bjoern. Yes, you can add keywords in Lightroom. As for Excire, I’ve never heard of it until a couple of days ago. Keywording is not something I suggest most of my viewers do, so using a plug-in (that will definitely slow down LR), just isn’t something I would recommend. But if you have it, give it a try and let us know what the results are. Just post a reply to this comment when you find out. Thanks!
I have it and the results are quite impressive, suggest you give it a look or ask for a trial. You can search by keyword or even by a sample photo .. with 80% very good results. It does not slow down the system as you can decide at which time you update the index .. so no constant system “churn”. I am a rather happy user as I am very lazy with keywords but decided to get more organized .. so any help is useful. Keep up your great work !
Thanks! I’ll have to check it out.
Back to square one .. I was impressed how good Sensei AI found my photos in Lightroom; I used several “runs” to tag different topics like sea , river , boat .. worked very well. But was stunned to find out that keywords do NOT sync between LR classic & LR … so for me any tagging in LR mobile is waste of time as not availbale later in my main system LR classic. This was one main reason why I wanted an Ipad pro .. so quite disappointed now and back to find ways to more easy tag keywords in LR classic 🙁

“This is by design. Lightroom CC cannot deal with the hierarchical keyword structure that classic can. Lightroom CC only has a flat keyword architecture so they decided to stop syncing the keywords between Classic and CC. It used to be able to but since the release of CC and Lightroom Classic it stopped doing that.
Not really, Jao….it’s never been possible to sync keywords between Lightroom (5, CC2015, or Classic) and Lightroom mobile (now including LRCC). The ability to sync Titles and Captions was added sometime during the CC2015 cycle, but never keywords (or Location data).”
Found a geek work around the keyword not synching. Adds an additional step but workable;
1) use AI search & add a keyword like “sea”
2) additional .. create a collection “sea” in LR mobile or LR
3) open LR classic & select the new collection “sea”
4) add keyword “sea” in LR classic & delete collection
not straight forward but working 🙂
Thanks Matt. Helped understand it much better.
Would be nice if the AI keywording applied across to Classic as well, but I would still need to add some keywords of my own. It would take some of the drudgery out of the necessary task though
