In this tutorial we’re going to take a deeper dive in to the Lightroom Portrait masking features that were added in version 12 (October 2022 update). We’ll look at everything from how to use the masking, skin softening, brightening eyes and teeth, as well as working with hair and removing some light blemishes.

I bought your Lightroom Portrait Masking Deep Dive and I love it!
I also love the Presets-Portrait-AI-MattK.
Will you eventually update them sooner or later?
Thanks for your work from Vienna, Austria!
All the best,
Sascha
Hi. Right now I have no plans to – and there’s not much to update. They just added the beard and clothing selection, but nothing else. Thanks.
How could I add those by my self? I tried, but didn’t succeed …
I’m not sure what you’re asking? Can you rephrase exactly what you’re trying to do. Thanks!
My task was to add the beard and clothing selection to your fantastic “All Masks” and “All Masks (Full Retouch)” presets and failed!
Ah! You’d have to start from scratch and make a new preset with all of the masks on it.
Ahhhhhhhhmaaaazing preset‼️
Thanks Matt‼️ ??????
Thank you for all of your efforts, Matt.
Thanks Matt, as ever an extremely comprehensive introduction to the new features in Lightroom.
Really great insight into the new features in Lightroom. Thanks Matt
Matt
Thank you for the overview. New version of LR installed, but it is not recognizing people. Any suggestions? Does the image format need to be raw or dng?
Thank you.
Greg Davis
Hi Greg. Image format doesn’t matter. Not sure what would cause that.
Matt
Thx for responding.
Greg
Very easy to follow and very helpful as I am not good with Lightroom or photoshop.
Thank you for this session on the new features. Thank you also for the presets and explanation on how to use them.
Thanks Matt, always great to hear your take on all Adobe updates.
Will be interesting to see what the hair mask does for someone who is bald!!!
Great stuff as usual, you always explain things so everyone can understand.
Do the portrait eye selections work with birds and other animals?
Give it a try (but probably no).
Maybe I missed it, but when you have a set with 3 people and run your action. When I select my mom and try to adjust her hair it changes the hair in all 3 people. How do I get it to just do hers and not the others?
Hi Jack. If you use a preset it will automatically add for all people. This is intended behavior (I didn’t say correct behavior) and there is no way to change it right now. As time goes on, and people use it more, my guess is there will be more options.
Thank you very much for the quick response. I want to thank you very much for the action. It is very nice especially for one person. It is nice to get to see such a nice looking family.
I do not have this update? Creative Cloud is saying my Lightroom Classic is up to date, but these masks are not there.
Hi. Check this link to learn how to update or refresh. https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/creative-cloud-updates.html
I don’t have this update either. I have auto update turned on
I deal with a ton of people pictures, as I am the photographer for my Harley Davidson Owners Group. This is going to incredibly speed up my process. I’ve already purchased your course because it’s exactly what I’ve been looking for. Thank you so much.
Since you said Harley Davidson… I will venture a dip into a stereotype:
Select Hair works great for hair but not yet for facial hair. We plan to add beards and moustaches at a later date.
