Hi all. This week (mid August 2021), Adobe released a small update to Photoshop that includes some new design features and an update to the Sky Replacement editor as well. In this video I’ll cover what’s new and where you can get your free skies from Adobe. Enjoy!

look good
Matt- thanks for the video. One problem I am having with the feature relates to the color
tone of the replacement. I am using my own skies and when I use them with my images the
sky goes from a rich blue to a washed out cyan [approximately]. This happens consistently. I end
up having to use a HSL adjustment layer above the sky replacement group in an attempt to bring back
the original color of my replacement sky.
Also, I have not seen anywhere details about the sky replacement files. What file format; jpeg, raw, tiff, psd, DNG, 8 bit 16 bit, dimensions, adobe rgb, srgb, etc.?
Thanks. Now, where do I find the link for your more in-depth tutorial? I can’t seem to find it. Your videos are always helpful.
Hi. I put them right above the video. Thanks.
Hi Matt I have been trying to download the new sky replacement collections into photoshop but unfortunately the files are lightroom files not photoshop, i have followed all the steps in your video and still get the same result.
OK I contacted adobe and for anyone who has a similar problem, go to the sky replacement drop down menue and go to import skies as presets. then click on the downloaded sky files and they will appear in sky replacement
Thanks Di. I covered that at around the 3:50 time code in the video. Glad you got it figured out.
Thanks Matt – your quick tutorials are always helpful.
Always look forward to your videos!
Thanks for the great sky tutorial, Matt. You mentioned the water reflection. Can you tell me where that is? I have looked but don’t see it.
Sorry I meant sky reflection. Thanks
Good stuff, Matt. I replace skies with no apologies, whatsoever.
Thanks, Matt, I really appreciate you letting us know about these updates and love the new sky replacements. With a major storm approaching, I plan on using one of the storm skies in an image today!
excellent tutorial video (your video’s are always)
I am sorry, but I click on the get more skies but it does not take me to where you are showing. Help. I get to the discover page but it does not show the same page with the Skys in circles for download. I am on a Mac and my Photoshop is up to date.
Can any one tell what I am doing wrong?
Worked fine for me and I am on a PC… maybe you should log into the Adobe Cloud service and try again?
Hi. Sorry I’m unable to troubleshoot that.
Hi Matt, I’m holding off updating Ps b/c each successive release is making Ps 3D features more unstable (per an Adobe product mgr) as they start the process to discontinue Ps 3D features. Is there a way to access the newest Free Skies from Adobe (like via Extensions or the Marketplace) w/out running this most recent Ps update on my Win PC. I like the look of some of the night skies you’ve shown, etc. Also, will you be talking about using Sky Replacement & creating Reflections during the Ps Virtual Summit III? Thx!
Hi. Yes I will be covering that. Thanks!
I watched it once and when I went to watch it again all I get is a black screen with a spining white circle. My {S is at the most updated version 2.5. Any wany to watch the video again
Thanks Matt.
Any idea how to make a .skies file out of the skies I shoot?
Never mind. I create a .sky file by importing them into Photoshop and exporting them to a .sky file from there.
My Photoshop only is updated to 22.31 and my updates say all my apps are updated, I just updated all my apps yesterday?
Do you know what is wrong?
If you have a Mac here is a link for you to look at. Same thing happened to me. Had to update the iOS.

Dear Matt:
Often when I replace a sky in PS (using your tutorial), you can see the old (original) sky bleeding through. The clouds from the original sky are visible in the cloudless areas of the new sky. Why is that? Am I doing something wrong?
Phil, Have you looked to see what percent (%) the Opacity setting is on while you’re still in the Replace Sky panel (it’s a slider setting just like being able to adjust the brightness, impact on foreground etc). You may have to make the new (replacement) sky more opaque if your original sky is showing through. Hope that helps! Good luck.
Well, I just looked again and there doesn’t seem to be an Opacity slider in the panel. Hmmm. Thought there was. Sorry. I don’t think Multiply vs Screen should affect that. Hope you can figure it out!
It’s all part of the blending Phil. It doesn’t work for all photos since every one is different and will respond to a sky replacement differently. You can always adjust settings in the window or masks after. Thanks!
Thanks Matt, It’s always a pleasure – and informative – to watch your videos. BTW: it was a breeze to download and get the sky files in place in Windows. Just download the files from the Adobe site and then double-click on the download files in the download folder – and it automatically – and instantly – put the sky files into their own new category in the Skies area of the Sky Replacement selection area. It works great.
With that said, I will probably continue to use the sky replacement tool of Luminar AI as it seems to have a better all-around sky replacement technology. Cheers.
Love your sky replacement course. I have been going through my sky replacements and redoing them with the tool. Thanks for the update. Since you mentioned the Neural filters the depth one crashes my photoshop invariably.Have you heard this from anybody else.
As always you are my favorite
Abe B.
Hi Abe. I have not heard of that.
Thanks for this lesson.
