Adjustment Layers in Photoshop are one of the most useful features we have. Well, recently. Adobe added a new setting which lets you create your own custom Adjustment Layer groups. So if you have some favorite settings (or multiple favorite adjustment layers and settings), this will help you apply them to new photos without having to create each layer from scratch for every photo. Enjoy!

Don’t know if anyone else found this, but having selected Adjustments in the Window panel I had to go to the “hamburger” on the top right and click Modern View. (I had, apparently, Classic View.) Then the three sub-categories popped up.
Beautiful pic, Matt! Where was that?
Thanks! Palouse region in Washington state.
Very nice. Will have to make a trip; never been to Washington state.
I love watching your videos and learn something every time I watch. I also really like the photo that you are using in this video.
Thank you again Matt for keeping us up to date with the new features available.
Can this new process accommodate adding a logo file to multiple photos?
Hi Kathy. No. This is a preset for adjustment layers. Thanks.
Excellent session.
Thank you.
Very helpful introduction. Thanks so much.
I currently use Actions to create multiple adjustment layers in a similar way. Can you explain how/if creating a Preset might be superior in a certain use case? I’m struggling to understand the benefit, since there is more functionality available to Actions. Really enjoy your work, thanks!
Hi Fred. Actions are a VERY advanced PS feature and I’d guess that 95% of people don’t know them or use them (heck, I haven’t used an action in 5+ years because they’re a pain). It’s one of those secret handshakes that keeps Photoshop difficult… because a seemingly simple task of adding a group of layers becomes complicated. So now you have a feature that does it and helps the majority of PS users add a group of adjustment layers without first having to know what an action is or how to use them. I understand now that you use them it may seem simple to you, but just know that’s not the majority of people. Hope that helps. Thanks.
I use Actions often for many different repetitive situations. However, I find it not very practical in situations with changing settings in adjustments. I find the new Adjustment Presets easier in practice. A set of Adjustments can be easily setup in the layers panel, and then saved as an Adjustment Preset. And it can then be used in various different Actions without having to repeat the setup each time. As in Actions, the Adjustment Preset can be modified in each Action during runtime, using the Stop command, easily.
Very good tip. I love these short video’s of tips. Great work Matt
Excellent information, you always make it easy to understand.
Matt
When you use a PS Preset ADOBE give them a catchy name. Can you find out what ADOBE did to make that Preset? Would be interesting.
Thanks
Don
Hi Don. Click on the preset and it’ll add the Adjustment Layers and you can look through them in the Layers Panel, to see what they did.
Excellent as always
Thanks for making this very informative video about the new add your own preset feature Matt. (FYI: don’t think I’m not enjoying your Photoshop How To course even though I’m only 6% done, I use it quite often when I can’t figure out how to do it myself.)
