   Matt, this tip is fantastic. I can’t remember how often I have wanted to pick a colour similar to one that is in the picture or outside of it.

   I want to say to the Adobe Lightroom team how to change the function of this colour box. So when you open it, click ones inside the box, release the mouse button and move over to the picture, click and hover over your choice of colour and release when you are satisfied with your choice.

   Great tip Matt and much appreciated by a deutan (I’m red-green colour blind). The drag dropper technique will be invaluable to me once I have a template of named colours at hand and visible on the screen next to LR display.

   Thanks Matt. I did not know that. My problem has always been how to close the color picker, after the selection, but I’ll have to try to find that again. There might be an “X” on it now. I don’t have it open right now.

    Hi Matt,

    I remember way back when you were doing Lightroom Killer Tips that you showed us how to do that when you were doing some Autumn Photos and wanted to pick some autumn color to change the brush. I’ve used it ever since. The biggest problem I have is that Adobe Camera Raw doesn’t let you do that!!! Very, very frustrating. You have to go out into the photo and record the eye dropper info and then input that into the color box. Drives me crazy!!! Maybe one of these days Adobe will make this change.

    This was GREAT! I too always thought the eyedropper should have been able to go outside the colour box! That is such a wonderful tip! THANK YOU SOOOOOO MUCH! I to see it work with other pictures that are up is even better! Wow! I am doing the PS happy dance right now!

    I always thought the eyedropper should work outside the colour box but the dropper disappears when you try to move it out. Nice tip!
