Hey everyone! Happy Friday! In case you didn’t know it, today is National Update Your Portfolio Day. Yup, it’s true. I semi-promise! 😉 Anyway, I recently updated my Squarespace.com portfolio with a few photos and took a few out. That’s actually the hardest part right? Every time one goes in, one must come out. Anyway, if you haven’t stopped by my “port” lately, here’s the link to my personal photography portfolio.
And if you’re interested in signing up for Squarespace (which I believe is really the best place to show off your photos), then click here. I really don’t do affiliate links for most things, but Squarespace is one of them because I truly believe that they have the best combination of killer looking portfolios and ease-of-use that I’ve seen. For most people who aren’t doing this as a business, I think the $8 / month plan will be more than enough.
However you do it and whoever you use though, if you don’t already have an online portfolio, take a few minutes this weekend and make one. I think you’ll really dig it in the long run.
Have a great weekend! 🙂
Matt, I was honored to see how many of your favorites were made when you were in the field with me! Beautiful stuff my friend!
Thanks buddy! Learned so much of it from you!
I signed for SS 3 years ago, as a result of your recommendation. I have regretted that decision ever since. They have ZERO relevant response to any tech issues. All I ever get is nice words with zero action. The list of shortcomings for photo blog sites is quite long, and they have NOT FIXED A SINGLE PROBLEM in those 3 years. The only reason I still use them is that it is too much pain to now switch 3 years of blog entries to a new platform. In short I HATE SQUARESPACE. It is a boil on my a**… 🙁
I have to completely agree with this comment. After giving it a try based on your strong recommendation, I gave up in frustration. Squarespace is awful.
Here’s one (small, but telling) example: If you want to add a gallery of images with thumbnails, all the thumbnails press against each other (zero padding). It’s odd, because in much of their demo content, thumbnails are neatly spaced apart. Turns out the “padding” is physically part of the demo images — as in, Squarespace photoshopped in a white border around each picture to make it look nice for the demo. It’s a total hack. Despite this, have they added in any actual functionality to add borders and padding? Nope.
It’s reflective of their apparent philosophy of form over function: Who cares if the platform is totally janky as long as it looks pretty?
Wow Matt, this is really weird. Just this morning I decided it was time to create a portfolio and signed up for Squarespace, then went to check my email and here was your post! I am stumbling my way through, I think I need to watch their videos, but hey I’m moving in the right direction! Thanks for your thoughtful post.
Matt — Nice work as always. Which template did you use? I’ve started to work on my Web site over at SquareSpace but stopped because I just couldn’t figure out a simple portfolio to set up that best displays my (few) images.
The template I have is called “Wells”. Its under the Portfolio templates. REALLY easy to use. Good luck!
