Hey there! I figured I’d sneak a quick photo from a weekend trip that Diana and I snuck away on last week. We have some friends that go to Key West FL every year around this time and we can never make it for some reason or anther. This year, we made a commitment to join them and we had a nice few days away. I haven’t been there in years, and I think I’ve officially found my happy place. I could SOOO live there 🙂 It’s like living on an island, but you still have a Florida address.
Anyway, I lugged the camera and video gear down with me because I’m releasing a Long Exposure Photography course this week and I knew of a couple of places that would make great candidates to get included in the course. This photo is one of them. And it wasn’t right at sunrise or sunset either. Why you ask? Because we’re usually sleeping at sunrise, and enjoying at cocktail or two (or three…) at sunset 🙂
And, before you ask, I actually cover why I left the blurry birds in the photo during the editing lesson of this shot in the course. There’s a reason.

Something Totally Different
I’m really excited about this course for a few reasons. For starters, I’ve taught this before but I really think I brought some new things to the table. It doesn’t mean I’m going to recommend you buy it if you’ve already watched my old one. But for those of you new to this, you’ll definitely get some thoughts and insights that I’ve never articulated before in my videos. Plus, as an educator, even if you’ve already seen my stuff – it’s important for me to keep fresh and deliver new things (even if they’re related to older topics I’ve talked about).
But, there’s one more thing I did totally different in this course. A huge part of the course (probably half) is devoted to post-processing and editing the photos. Editing is just as important as the shot itself in these photos. But this time, I’ve done 3 versions…
- One version for Lightroom/Photoshop users
- Another one for ON1 users
- And one more for Affinity users

Why 3 Versions?
I’m super excited about this and it’s something I’ve never done before. I wrote about my thoughts on the State of Post Processing in 2017 earlier this year. In that article I basically said (well, I did say), that post processing and the programs/apps we use have become (almost) commoditized. They all do pretty much the same thing. One Exposure slider is just like the other. They all even look the same. So I decided to put my money where my mouth is, and show that they’re the same.
I really want to be the guy who helps you figure out what assets of editing make a photo look great, rather than rehash what the Exposure slider does a thousand times over.
Anyway, if you’re interested in the course, stay tuned. It should be out in the next day or two. And this isn’t one of those deals where I blast you with emails for 6 days either (but expect a couple of them at least) 🙂

It’s going to be fun to compare the results using PS/LR and Affinity. I had taken PS/LR off my computer when I got Affinity, so I never got a chance to compare. Now that I have PS/LR again (since Costa Rica) and, I have to admit, I’m really liking using them, I can compare. I’d always liked LR but since it comes with PS, I’d just switched to ON1 and Affinity. Now I can compare them all. I can’t wait! Your LR/PS course are great, so I’m expecting great things from this one.

I wasn’t leaning toward purchase until you mentioned that you would be covering how to edit in Affinity. While I primarily use LR & PS, but I have to master Affinity for when I will be traveling with only my iPad Pro and no laptop. Now I am leaning towards buying the course 🙂
