I know it’s confusing when you see multiple features that seem to do the same thing. For example, we have the “Select Subject” feature in Lightroom/ACR when editing the raw photos. But we also have a “Select Subject” feature in Photoshop. Are they the same? Different? We’ll take a look at it this week. Enjoy!

I love teaching and photography... In that order. I feel that enjoying photography, and photo editing can get WAY too complicated. So my personal mission (and favorite thing to do), is to create education that simplifies the process of taking great photos, and how to edit them to get the results youโve always wanted.
Thanks Matt – very helpful!
Thanks Matt. I use both LR & PS almost everyday and am pretty effective with then both. I think. I would like to purchase your how to course just to have it. Thanks for all you do for the photo community.
Another gem. Matt. Thank you.
Thanks another excellent video
Appreciate all your videos and teachings, thank you
As always such a wonderful teacher.
Very helpful video, Matt, as all of you r videos are. Thank you.
Thanks, Matt! An excellent video and very useful description/comparison of LRC and PS.
Matt another great video with a couple of useful tips. One issue I have had in LR (classic) with select subject is either it has trouble selecting the subject and therefore doesn’t do a complete job or goes overboard. I know I can handle both situations with add or subtract, but is there a better way of getting LR to do a better job of selecting the subject? Sometimes what I will do is use select object instead which seems to be a bit more accurate. Any other suggestions?
Hi Richard. There are no settings for it. You click and you get what you get. Just remember, if it’s not a clearly defined subject that has a sharp and contrasty edge to it with separation from the background, you can’t really expect great results. As the saying goes… it is what it is ๐
