When masking specific areas in Lightroom and Photoshop Camera Raw, we often want to target and enhance colors. But since we have several ways of doing that, it can be confusing. So this week we’re going to look at increasing the Saturation of a color in two ways and see how it affects the photo. Enjoy!
Take Control Over Color Saturation

Matt, since watching this video, I have been playing with Point Color on faces, heavy dark clouds with some sky, & landscapes. This is an awesome tool for tweaking specific colors that aren’t quite right. Thanks!!
Another nice explanation with good examples! Thanks Matt!
Good information to know and use. Thanks!
It’s a great tool but you have to understand color theory and be aware it will alter other parts of your photo unless you apply the changes very selectively. Things can appear very painterly.
Proceed slowly until you get used to it.
A good presentation as always.
Hi and Thanks. I do disagree that you need to understand color theory and I wouldn’t want people reading this thinking they need to. Instead, use your eyes. What looks good and what looks bad to you is (to me at least) much more valuable, than the buzzwords of color theory and the need to understand it. I know nothing of color theory and have never taken a color class in my life – but know enough to look at the tools and try to understand what they do. Thanks.
This video is a great reminder for me to use Point Color to edit my photos. Thanks!
Thank u for the video, Matt. One thing I find frustrating when trying to use Point Color is that I cannot limit it to my masks. The “range” doesn’t really do it (or I don’t know how to use it successfully), so I always end up changing colors in the whole photo instead of a particular area — which is not what I want. What’s the solution?
Hi Lana. Not sure what you’re asking but this whole video was done using Masks so you can limit it to whatever part of the photo you’d like.
love the video great idea of points of color I will try this on some fall photos
Great tip! Very helpful. Thank you.
Thank you
Thanks Mat. Once again more tips have come forth to help my color correction. Amazing tool. Is it possible to do a video on Lens Blur featuring the Visualize Depth and Brush Refinement. Appreciate
What can I say but you are great and thank you for being there.
How will this work for black and white?
I’m not sure. It’s color saturation which doesn’t sound like something that would be useful for B&W. But give it a try to see how it works.
Matt : You mentioned your new Lightroom system course. Does this replace the course that I already have from you?
I cannot find a date on it, but it is called The Lightroom System.
Thanks.
Hi Michael. It’s not new. But it is updated and you can log in to your account and always watch the new videos as they are already included. Thanks.
Maybe it’s just me but demonstrations on a color wheel don’t make much sense to me. I would rather see a demonstration on an actual photo.
Hi. I did show 2 photos in the video. The color wheel was, as I said, a way to visualize and understand what was going on before applying it to photos.
