The Sony a1 Insane Frame Rate

My first thoughts on the Sony a1 Frame Rate. Also Click Here check out Mark Galer’s Sony videos for a full 1 hour camera setup.
I’ve just bought myself a Sony a1, and I was hoping to record the EVF as you’ve done. How do you do it?
Hi. I use an ATMOS Ninja V screen + recorder that’s attached to the camera via HDMI cable. Hope that helps.
Beautiful shots! Can you say what lens(es) you were using for them?
Hi Jim. It’s a mix of 100-400 and 600mm. You’d never know the difference from just looking at them. The quality is exactly the same. I do get a bit faster auto focus and lower f-stops with the 600mm prime. But it’s not any sharper.
Hi Matt – I love all of your tutorials since you explain so easily. Unfortunately, this isn’t a question about the Sony but the Nikon z6. Do you know of anyone or do you yourself do tutorials such as this on the z6. I know they’ve come out with newer models but I’m lost on the z6 and focus tracking, animal eye focus etc. I need someone like you to explain
Hi. Unfortunately I don’t have a Nikon or teach about it. Good luck!
Hudson Henry has excellent info on the Nikon Z6.
Steve Perry (backcountrygallery.com) has excellent Nikon tutorials on Youtube as well as an ebook on the Nikon mirrorless autofocus system.
Hi Matt, lots of fun stuff, like always. Nictating membrane for that semi transparent eyelid. I appreciated your comments about not switching gear every time a manufacturer comes out with an improvement.
Matt
Well done on the A1, thanks for the video. I am also fortunate enough to have an A1. The A1 allows you to put lots and lots of IPTC data into the camera, for it to,be added to your images. But the process on the Sony website is incomplete. I have worked it out and posted the information below. I had an issue with the CF Express card, but that was probably caused by poor technique as I worked out how to do it correctly.
HOW TO REGISTER IPTC INFORMATION INTO THE SONY A1
The Sony software and instructions are here: https://support.d-imaging.sony.co.jp/app/iptc/en/
I had to do a survey before I could download the software.
The instructions are not complete. My suggestion:
1. Install the Sony IPTC software on your PC/Mac. It is called the Sony IPTC Metadata Preset.
2. Type in the IPTC information you want stored in the camera. You can import this information into the Sony IPTC Metadata Preset software if you already have it in an XML file.
3. Format a SD card in the Sony A1 (it MUST be formatted in the camera). Warning: I had a problem when I used a CF Express card.
4. Put the camera formatted SD card into a card reader attached to your PC/Mac.
5. Go to Sony IPTC Metadata Preset software and EXPORT the file to the formatted SD card. You can save the info on your PC/Mac but it must be EXPORTED onto the SD card.
6. Put the SD card into Slot 1 of the Sony A1. Do not have two cards in the camera.
7. Open the Shooting Menu on the Sony A1: Shooting>3File>IPTC Information>Register IPTC Info>Select Slot 1
8. If successful you get the message “Registered IPTC Information”. Select OK.
9. Now select Write IPTC Info and turn it on/off as you desire.
You must use the Sony software as the camera will only upload information exported from the Sony app, in some proprietary format, I think.
Hi TheDoc,
I’m trying to download the IPTC Metadata Preset. After completing the survey clicking the link takes me nowhere 🙁
(both on Dutch Sony site as international site).
It looks like it just refreshes the page.
Bummer that you can’t write more than one preset to the card. So you have to carry multiple cards with multiple presets 🙁
Looks promising though.
I sometimes rent an A9(II) and will be renting an A1 as well when I can.
Would love to play with the IPTC Metadata Preset before that time.
This video would have been a lot more informative for me had you uploaded images into Lightroom so we could see how crisp they actually were. Looks like a monster of a camera, but at some point, it might pay just to shoot video and pull the frames you want.
Hi Jeff. I’m not sure what showing photos in LR would have done to demonstrate the frame rate which is what the video was about. When I do a video on the bird eye auto focus, then it would make sense to show photos (though I won’t show them in LR).
Mark enjoy your expertise on everything photography. I have had an a1 on order for over two months and it is still backordered. Do you hav any suggestions?
Thanks Mark. I always enjoy your content and share your enthusiasm about the camera. I just shot mine for the first time away and am shocked at how good it handles high ISO at 50mp.
