If you follow the Adobe world you’ll know that Adobe releases what they call a “dot” update to Lightroom every 2-3 months or so. These updates are usually meant to take care of new camera and lens profile updates that come in to the market between those months, but they also sneak some new features in just about every time.
This week (mid February 2020) Adobe released one of those updates and we are now on Lightroom 9.2. In this video I’ll share what’s new in this version. We’ll talk about how to set raw default settings for your photos, PSB or large file support, GPU enhancements, and greater support for multiple computer screens. Enjoy!
What happened to the ability to create a backup of original raw images when importing from a memory card. I was used to spinning off a copy of originals at the same time I was adding images into my catalog. Can’t seem to do that now in the newest import dialog box.
Hi Bob. It’s still there. It’s possible you have it hidden but the feature hasn’t changed or moved. Thanks!
Hi Matt I watched your link to the video on the 5 Tips to speed up Lightroom and noticed that it was dated July 2018. Is this the most current or is there more info now that allot of machines are running SSD Drives and the newest Lightroom. Thanks for all the info and experience you share, I enjoy your courses and videos
Hello Sir…if we previously purchased your photoshop system, do we still receive updated videos…or no?
Hi Kenny. Yes. Even though you purchased 3+ years ago and are well out of the update range I offered when you purchased, I still did them. If you log in to your account and access your downloads you’ll see the downloads are replaced with the newest version of the course. Thanks.
Hey Matt,
My Lightroom I down loaded at the beginning of your course is now saying that my trial is over? It also states I need to buy a plan? How do get a copy of Lightroom that is updated and mine?
Thanks in advance,
Steve
Hi Steve. You’ll want the first $9.99 plan on this page: https://www.adobe.com/creativecloud/plans.html?red=a
Thanks Matt, another great tutorial on photography and Adobe updates.
Hi Matt –
Really useful video – especially about Sync Photos.
But – what I really want to do is ‘Unsync’ all the images that I have inadvertently Synced!
Can you tell me how to achieve this? I have read various items but have not been able to delete anything.
Many thanks for all your helpful videos.
Right click on the Collection and choose to Stop Sharing. That will unsync everything.
Thanks. Very clear and concise explanation.
Excellent thanks Matt!
LR and PS updates do not worry me anymore. I can count that a couple of days after they’ve released, I can ignore all the YouTube videos and simply come to this page for a reliable, step by step review of such updates. This is part of Matt’s superb customer service and education videos.
How would you go about changing the default profile from Adobe Color to the [Camera] Standard?
Hi Charles. Make a preset with that profile chosen, and then set that preset as a default in the Preset Preferences that I showed in this video.
Are you running Windows 10? or something earlier?
Crashes under Windows are sometimes related to conflict with other software.
Hi Matt, Thanks for getting this out so early. I have found that since doing the update that I can no longer change my default settings in the develop module by hitting alt/option key and hitting reset defaults as it now remains on reset and does not change to “update to current settings”. Is this part of the changes introduced with this update or is it a bug that has been added?
Hi Peter. The old way no longer works and cancels out anything that you had before. You now have to use the new way.
MATT: I have previously used an import default for LR Classic that sets different default sharpening and noise reduction settings depending on the ISO of each individual image. Automatically. I find this highly desirable and learned it from Damien Lovegrove. However, I have not figured out how to do that in this new system. I have created presets for each ISO between ISO 200 and ISO 25600 (Fuji X-Pro2) but the defaults have not changed upon importing new raw images.
How can this be accomplished in 9.2?
Hi Charles. Not sure exactly what you’re saying but the defaults allow you to select a preset from the list if you’ve already created one. I don’t think you can select a preset based on ISO if that’s what you’re looking for. Wouldn’t take more than a couple of clicks to filter by ISO later though and apply a preset.
In the old LR prior to 9.2, the Presets tab had an option to make the default subject to the imported ISO from the camera. With the appropriate presets set for each ISO setting in the camera, You could then make the defaults automatically set upon import for each image independent of each other iimage. Here is a link to Lovegrove’s instructions on how to do this:
https://www.prophotonut.com/2018/12/11/setting-up-lightroom-for-a-new-camera/
I found this very helpful and wish it had not been eliminated.
Two questions arise: How does one set defaults for import, not just what import preset to use?
and, Is it possible to revert this feature as it was in 9.1?
Hi Charles. You are correct… It appears that feature was removed with no way to add back.
Thank you for the great update. You da man Matt!
Thanks for the information Matt. I’m so excited that LR finally supports PSB files. Every survey I’ve filled out for Adobe I always add that request to my comments. I have very large files since I do ultra macro focus stacking. Will I now need to go back to each folder that has a PSB file and sync it? My catalog is too large to sync the entire catalog. I appreciate you sharing you knowledge.
Thanks Matt!
Wish I could use LR. Ever since v 6, it crashes before startup completes on Windows. So, v6 it is for me. Have you heard of this issue?
Hi… I have not, but if you’re using v6 it’s not supported and about 6 years old so you won’t find much help. Adobe has a free 30 day trial of the latest version that I would suggest trying out to see if it helps.
Thank you! I have an Adobe subscription and keep trying the updates, hoping for success. I appreciate your reply. ?
Thank you Matt. As usual this is fine work from you. You make it so easy to learn. I wish I could take one of your courses..
Thanks so much Matt. These updates are so useful.
Hey Matt. Thank you for all you do! Quick question – what happened to getting from library to develop module by hitting “d”. It now just goes to the next library starting in d
When did that happen?
Mine works OK, going from Library to Develop modules by typing ‘D’
Me too. Works the same as always.
Matt, Thanks for the great update
Problem with Lightroom Classic version 9.2 Feb update. Lightroom crashes on sign out. I just called Adobe and reported it. They tested it while I waited and they said “Yes” it’s a problem or bug. They re-created it. It will be fixed in the next update. So far they said I am the first to report the problem. It is happening on 2 PC’s here.
JoeS,
That doesn’t sound correct. I would like to get more information from you regarding this crash. Can you contact me at the Support Forum? https://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/categories/photoshop_family_photoshop_lightroom
Hi Rikk,
All of the information I have is right here in this post. This is what happened. What more can I say? I clicked the link you put in your post, but not sure what to do when I get there. Sorry.
Hey Joe. Click on “NEW POST” at the top. I think Rick is saying let’s get the convo off of a blog and in to a place where it’s easier to troubleshoot and help. There’s logs and things he can request from you, that he can’t here. Plus, any solutions that do come from it are now much more searchable for people, rather than just dying in a comment on my blog. Rikk is a great guy and very helpful, so I’d try the link and post your info there to see if he can help. Thx.
You redid your course in “January of 2024”? (that’s what I heard you say the video) ;-p
P.S. I realize the words are “in January of 2020 FOR” but it does sound like 2024.
Great update. Brief and to the point. Thank you!
