Hi all. Adobe released some new updates to both Lightroom Classic and Lightroom recently. While I wouldn’t consider this a big update, Lightroom Classic received a feature that I know a lot of you have been asking for, and Lightroom Desktop got two features that really help improve workflow.

Enjoy!

I love teaching and photography... In that order. I feel that enjoying photography, and photo editing can get WAY too complicated. So my personal mission (and favorite thing to do), is to create education that simplifies the process of taking great photos, and how to edit them to get the results you’ve always wanted.
I have MASKING DEEP DIVE SHOULD I ALSO PURCHASE NEW COURSE ON MASKING ? IS IT DIFFERENT ? MANY THANKS
Hi. This is in the FAQ on the page:
Is this the same course as the Masking Deep Dive Course you did back in 2021?
No. The Masking Deep Dive course came out 5 years ago and is outdated at this point. This is not an update or an upgrade. This is an entirely new course.
If you feel that you know masking well, then you can skip this course. If you haven’t kept up with masking changes over the years, then you may want to check out the new course.
Hi Matt. Love your videos. So I have imported all photos into LRC and keywords everything. Is it still possible to switch over to LR desktop?
Thanks so much!
Hi Sharon. LR Desktop does not work with your existing catalog and there is no feature that allows this. When I switched over, I just left my old stuff in LR Classic. I don’t have much of a need to go to older photos and when I do, I know where to get them. Going forward, I started using LR Desktop and life is just simpler for me. But there is no feature that lets you take your LRC work over to LR Desktop. There are workarounds to get some of it, but it’s clunky. Thanks.
Thank you
Hi, I am somewhat new to Lightroom. Do you offer any courses starting from the beginning?
Thanks, Matt. I always appreciate your updates. Do you have a course on selections?
Hi Cathryn. I have a new course here: https://mattk.com/art-of-masking
Hope that helps.
Matt, I start a new Catalog every year… Can Lr handle pictures combined over 2 or more multiple years? I liked it by year but now with how you are searching I cannot search like you are doing in this video over the years just one year? (I receive your newsletters already)
Hi David. Lightroom can handle as many photos as you want to throw at it. There is no catalog. You just browse to folders of photos.
Excellent. Thank you. I have questions regarding Lightroom desktop. Where do you keep most of your photos since cloud storage is limited? What happens to the catalog I have used in Lightroom Classic with the switch? I sometimes feel trapped in Lightroom as if I ever cancel the monthly charge my photo management would be difficult (I guess). Are we forever trapped in Lightroom?
Still learning!! Thanks
Thank you for another great explanation of a Lightroom update.
Great update
Thanks for this Matt; helpful as always but I did find the object behind you quite distracting – blue and red panels flashing
What is a mood board and why would someone use it?
Mood Boards are helpful to me as an interior designer!
Thanks!
You mentioned the next video to watch … where is the link?
Love it! Great video. Mood board made me laugh!
I’m unsure what is exactly called but during editing, what appears to be “ghosting”or double exposure takes over certain images. It’s just impossible to continue editing. Any fix?
Hi. I would contact Adobe as that’s not normal. Thanks!
Thank you.
I use Topaz Photo a lot and LR does not work as smoothly as in LRC. If I click a RAW image, it converts it to TIF when going to Topaz, and when exported back to LR, DNG is not an option. It does a TIFF. Also have issues trying to send batches of multiple images to and from Topaz, as it is much slower than LRC
Hi. Check out my video on this page: https://mattk.com/topaz
My immediate thought was can you use that search thing to navigate a CAPTCHA with fewer attempts? Select all the photos with motorcycles in them for example.
Please please please show me the focus points.
It’s great that batch denoising is better. I generally batch denoise via Auto-sync, rather than Syncing the batch. Is there any reason to use Sync over Auto-sync?
Nope. Different workflow, same results.
What about LR Mobile?
Hi. I believe any features that are also on mobile will be listed here.
