Adobe just released an update to Lightroom Classic, Lightroom and Photoshop. Now we have some improved distraction removal tools as well as more seamless noise reduction. In this video we’ll take a look at what’s new. Enjoy!

Matt – As always, thank you for your LR update videos. Question: I’ve been using LR Classic for several years. When I download videos into LR Classic shot with my iPhone 16, as soon as I come to them in my LR library mode, LR crashes. Is there a setting I need change so I can open the videos in LR?
Hi Richard. You’re very welcome. As for your issue… you’d want to contact Adobe for that. Crashing is not normal and needs tech support. Thanks!
Regarding the recent LrC updates, while I can understand (and agree with) some people annoyance at the revised DeNoise locking up LrC until it is finished (where it didn’t formerly do that), I am finding I love the new AI Edit Status button. It allows me to pay no attention to the “proper” editing order and update things later in a user friendly way.
Still playing catchup with all the recent new features, relearning how one can do things, and the new things one can do..
Love your tutorials, you get down to the nuts and bolts and explain the options well. Thank you.
Many thanks. Great summary of interesting developments.
Have you noticed any performance issues with the 14.4 update. I notices a huge difference, lagging screen refreshes etc since 14.4
I have found your tutorials a true help in my editing efforts, I rely on getting the latest from you. Iโm wondering where YOU get the latest on Lightroom and Photoshop? (Iโm assuming a special relationship with Adobe.)
Thanks Frank. Adobe has a good relationship with content creators out there and tries to get new information in to our hands a little earlier than when it publicly comes out.
I love your cat.
Thanks. She also loves me… unconditionally… whenever she wants to ๐
Thanks Matt,
As always I appreciate your videos. I must say, I have never been disappointed with any of your classes that I have purchased or participated in.
Thanks Diane!
Hi Matt, I have watched this video several times and realise that using that new icon in LRC has to be before even using keynotes. However my icon is not available until after I have been to Detail/Denoise and then it turns white. I see that your icon is white when you first open Develop. I have updated to 14.4 and notice that my catalogue v 13.3. What am I doing wrong please. I like the idea of not having duplicate photos everywhere. I always start with Topaz Denoise so look forward to cutting that step out. Hope you can help. Regards, Robin
Hi Robin. I’m sorry, but I don’t understand your question.
When i open Lightroom CC, the new icon that your video told us about, is greyed out whereas yours was white when you opened LRC.
Hi. That icon is only not-gray when it needs to be (specific AI settings have been applied in a specific order). It’s not a sign of something being wrong if it’s gray. Thanks.
Thanks Matt, much appreciated.
thanks so much, Matt!
I had tried the people remover on a photo that I took a few years ago on a trip. There were people from my group that were across the whole photo from one side to the other. When I did the auto remove, it only selected the people on the far left and the far right. It ignored the people in the middle I guess, because it must have assumed they were meant to be there. I had to go back and manual use the brush to select them.
Matt, will Adobe ever incorporate a “Sky Replacement” feature in Lightroom? Probably 75% of my edits in Photoshop are to replace the sky. This works well but it creates another file and is no longer “non-destructive”. It would be really sweet if Lightroom had its own sky replacement. What do you think?
Hi Jeff. Can’t really speak to what Adobe may or may not do. What I can say is I hope they never do. If they add “that one little feature that I need” for every person out there, then LR would become the large behemoth app that Photoshop is. So I’d say that, while you may use it on 75% of your photos, most people don’t. But will they add it? Your guess is as good as mine. Thanks.
Excellent video. The Denoise feature will save me lots of money!
Won’t I start with Denoise, then edit and enhance the image?
The recommended order of operations to avoid unexpected results and achieve the best output is as follows:

Another great tutorial keep them coming
With AI how does one know if the AI adjustments are done from within existing pixels or from image data in the cloud?
This can be important for competition images as usually only images/pixels created by the photographer are allowed whether from the same image or another of theirs.
I’d always ask the competition administrator about this. If they’re going to give you a rule, they should also give you context of what tools are allowed and not allowed. It’s their responsibility to know about this, if they’re going to put rules around it. Thanks.
Matt:
You recently highlighted Topaz a being a more user friendly Denoise tool. Given the recent Lightroom Denoise upgrades, do you still prefer Topaz?
Ron
Hi Ron. Nothing has changed about the quality of LR’s DeNoise feature so nothing has changed in my workflow. The fact LR created a duplicate wasn’t the reason I used Topaz because Topaz does the same right? When I have a problem photo, my workflow is the same and I would still use Topaz Photo AI. Just remember not every photo with higher ISO is a problem photo. So if the ISO is only 1600 and razor sharp, I have and would continue to use Lightroom for noise reduction. Hope that helps!
The people remover is pretty good. As well as having an option to not delete a person, there should also be one where you can add the ones that the Ai missed.
Hi Eric. There is a brush for that. You do have the Eraser brush above in the same Remove panel. Thanks.
That small raptor is SO BEAUTIFUL!
Thanks. It’s a Laughing Falcon taken in Costa Rica. I’ve been there a bunch of times but only seen it once. Great looking bird though.
Also check out the new Variance slider in Point Color, it’s pretty nice.
I hope that Adobe will some day add Removal of Wires to the distraction removal tool in Classic, as is now available in Photoshop which I find useful on occasion.
Matt
When I attempt to watch the video on the new LightRoom update, I get a maddening “sign in to confirm you’re not a bot” message. I am already signed into my Mattk account, so “sign into WHAT”?
Hi. That is a YouTube message to log in, not my website. If you try viewing the web page in another browser it will most likely work. It’s not related to my website. Or you can go straight to YouTube to watch the video as well. Thanks.
If you have a VPN active on your WiFi, you will get that message. Turn off your VPN and Mattโs video will be there to watch.
Matt, thank you for keeping us informed. Greatly appreciated. Please keep it free for users. Thanks
You’re welcome, but I have a question… Keep what free for what users?
hi, Matt. Just watched the video. You didn’t say anything, but I’m wondering if the new Remove feature or Denoise which both use generative AI add points when they’re used. Thanks.
Hi. Right now, nothing in Lightroom or Camera Raw uses your generative credits.
Matt, thank you so much for this video. I updated LR and did not use it immediately, other things to do. I opened it this morning and started to work on a photo that I needed to Denoise. I checked the Denoise box and thought it was a little strange that I did not get the preview and the slider, but continued on and then, it was Where is my dng file! I thought I did something wrong so decided to Denoise another file, again where is my dng file! Then I remembered the email I received from you regarding LR changes and thought, I better take a look at the video. Well you answered all my questions! Thank you so much for keeping everyone informed! I really didn’t like a duplicate copy made, just takes up more room on my drive. Thanks so much Matt! Great Denoise improvement!
These updates are coming faster than I can assimilate. I have tried Landscape Masking just twice, I think. These new features are pretty cool, though. Thank you for helping us understand them.
Hi Michael. I get it… you could always choose not to use them or bother with it if you’re happy with your workflow. But for every person that thinks there are too many updates, there are 100 that would say Adobe isn’t doing enough. Damned if you do… damned if you don’t ๐
The video was great. You didn’t mention, though, the other selection in Denoise. What is that used for?
Matt, will the glare removal tool work on eyeglasses?
Hi Pat. I doubt it but give it a try and let us know what you find out. Thanks.
Excellent tutorial on updates! Thank you, Matt!!!
Matt, Thanks for the update info. I tried the people removal on several images – one problem – it did not select all the people – Did a good job removing those selected then I had to use the normal distraction removal tool to get rid of the non-selected people.
Did cut my work by 75-90 % depending on how many missed, Any way to ADD or SUBSTRACT from initial selection?
Appreciate you presenting the updated so quickly.
Hi Sonny. Yes, you can use the normal remove tools if you’re not happy with what it gives you.
As always, Matt, thanks for keeping us up to date.
George in Tampa
excellent video once again.
Thank you.
Thanks for your service to the LrC community, Matt! This is a very helpful video.
Arg! no link to your new book you reference??
Hi Burt. It’s in the big giant image directly above the video on the page you wrote this comment ๐
