This is my first time seriously using the Color Grading in Lightroom. At the moment, I am only using it for tonal range, not color. Question. What is the difference between the Color Grading and Highlights and Shadows in the Basic Panel? Any chance there is a video showing the difference? Again, just for tone, not color.
Hi Alan. Color grading adds color. Highlights and shadows doesn’t work with color. Hope that helps.
I purchased both of your courses l/R and photoshop both are brilliant the one referring to hard drives brought back lots of
memories my only one burnt out with hundreds of my best photos on it not one could be saved i now have three hard drives
lesson learned so backup backup and backup again
Video won’t run
Matt hi,
Amazing video as always so informative and intuitive. However after downloading the LRC 10.0 to be able to play with all of these new features, found a frustrating glitch. I cannot export my photos after post processing them. It is not found in the first “Export” box but the second Export box ie “export to File” after it opens up. When you try to export a photo to your email, hard drive etc this box below appears;
Unable to Export “an internal error has occurred: ?:0 attempt to index field “font” [a nil value].
In looking on Adobe forum I do not appear to be the only one with this problem. Very frustrating given no solution to it . I wonder if others should be wary until this gets addressed?
Any thoughts greatly appreciated

so clear as usual; thanks Matt !
Thanks Matt. There now seem to be even more keyboard shortcuts – have Adobe produced a definitive list?
Is Color Grading going to be added to Camera Raw as well?
Yes, it’s there too. Camera Raw and LR always stay on par with each other so when one gets updated the other does too.
Thanks for that Matt. I checked the updater, on the desktop, and all up to date but after seeing this I checked in LRC Help and found that all my Adobe were out of date. It’s no wonder all that was shown appeared strange, sort of.
I know this is not Photoshop, but do you have any update on the significant error that requires the latest processor to make Photoshop open and work? File needed is ippiCanny_32f8u_C1R_L that has something to do with the processor I believe. Is a fix coming? Many of us can’t afford new computers. The previous version works fine.
Matt, great video. Can I delete my old LR catalogs?
Yep.
When I went to What’s new in Lightroom Classic, I get the store. Can you help me find the correct webpage?
Hi Ron. you’re already in the right place. You have left a comment on the page that contains the video, so just scroll up and you can watch it there.
Adobe have just kicked thousands in the teeth by making the updates available to Macs with 10.14 and Catalina. I have a class here today and six out of the ten of them have now redundant computers. We live in a throw away society and we cannot keep up with big companies updating at our cost. This is a bad day for many people. Shame on you Adobe, subscription software is the end of us.
I was the biggest critic of subscription software, HOWEVER, compare ALL one time purchase software, are they still around? NO because you can’t keep updating software for free. Do you teach for free? If so it’s your hobby. Adobe is powerful because it’s not a hobby software. They give us updates 4x a year and added Adobe photoshop for goodness sake. When it was a 1x a year purchase we only got 1 version foe $140 a year and it didn’t include PS. Change your mindset. Even Capture one is non subscription but puts out a new version every year and costs more than Adobe because it doesn’t have PS. Aperture died because no money in it. Compare the whole package.
BTW, good job Matt!!! Love your videos. You rock man!
I think Gary’s biggest issue is the new version doesn’t work with his computer/OS. But Adobe is no different than the industry. Eventually all companies phase out older OS’s. Microsoft, Apple and Adobe lead the way. But they ALL follow. If you do a little checking you’ll see all alternatives phase out OS’s as well. It just doesn’t get as much hype because none of them are as big as Adobe. People like to complain about the big companies more 🙂 But the phasing out of older OS’s has nothing to do with subscription. ON1 doesn’t support older OS’s and they have a perpetual license. The two aren’t related.
It happens. Software gets updated, older OS versions are no longer supported. Current CC software doesn’t run on Windows 7 or 8 either. *shrug* Just update your OS.
Hey Tobias – I believe the issue is that some computers can’t update the OS any more because of technology limitations. So it means getting a new computer.
Cheers Matt, great video as always. Be lucky stay safe.
Excellent as always – thanks Matt
Simply put Thanks!
Hi Matt, I just did the update of LR Classic. Just have been watching your video and weirdly I can’t find the color grading. I do recall split toning but didn’t really use it. By chance do you know how I can get the color grading into this LR update?
Hi Frances – if it’s not appearing where it’s showing up in my video, then you’d have to contact Adobe if indeed your version says Lightroom 10.
I updated last night to version 10. I’m watching your video and the color grading is not showing in my menu either. I checked the version and it shows 10. I’ll try to contact Adobe, but just wanted you to know that this may be a bigger problem. Am wondering if you’ve heard anything back from Frances.
I just talked with Adobe and they got the Color Grading to show up.
Oh come on, how in the world can you get in touch with Adobe?
I did Carolyn, right click on the one of the panels when they are closed such as basic. I have a Mac so I click on the control button and click my mouse on the closed basic panel. What pops up is customize develop panel. Click on customize panel and then the list of what you have opened shows and have check marks. Just check Mark the color grading to add it to your panels. Click save. Done hope this helps.
Matt I appreciate that you got back to me. I did end up contacting Adobe. Problem resolved. I do have a question though about your textures and the videos with them. I bought your previous texture course and loved it and have a few of my prints on my wall. You mentioned your new textures would work with landscapes. I was wondering if you were going to do some videos in using them in landscape?
Hi Frances – the original texture Course has a video on how to blend with a landscape. I could do another video with another texture, but the process wouldn’t change. Whether it’s a landscape or an animal, the way you go about it is really the same. Maybe just watch the landscape texture blend in the course you have, and substitute it with a different texture? Thanks.
Thank you Matt. It has been awhile since I watched it.
Hi Matt, Love your tutorials. Do you have any tutorials on Luminosity Masking basics?
Hi Colin. Yes, you can check out the store (mattk.com/course-list) for my course. I believe I have a free basic tutorial on my YouTube page too. Thanks!
I see these updates for Lightroom Classic and can’t help but to think that going to Lightroom CC might have been a mistake. I feel like maybe I’m being left behind. I have the monthly version where I get Lightroom CC and Photoshop. I put everything into the cloud and no longer use external hard drives. I’ve heard that I have Lightroom Classic also but have no idea how to get pictures into it. Then to Photoshop and back to Lightroom CC. Please advise as to how to do this. Thanks.
Hi Alex. If you have the plan that gets you Lightroom (cloud version) and Photoshop then you also get Lightroom Classic too. Remember, that all of the features added to LR Classic were also added to Lightroom (cloud version) too. Their Develop features are mostly on par with each other. I don’t cover the cloud version because not many people use it, but I think in a few years EVERYONE will want to use it. It is the future and if you do a quick google search for “What’s new in Lightroom”, Adobe’s page will show you the new features.
I havd completed your Lightroom class. Best training I’ve dver done ! On to Photoshop tven Landscape class. Eventually Texture class. Thanks for all you do!!!
Amen! Matt’s courses are the greatest.
I use Lightroom Classic on my desktop and Lightroom CC on my mobile devices. In Lightroom Classic, images from or available in Lightroom CC appear in collections. Open Lightroom Classic, enable cloud synching and look at collections, your cloud images should appear there. Similarly, load and edit images in Lightroom Classic, add the ones you want available in Lightroom CC to a collection and synchronise it and you’re good to go. Edits made from these collection images on one device and version of Lightroom are available on your other devices and version of Lightroom.
