Adobe just released a new version of Lightroom Classic (we’re up to version 15 now). We’ve got some new features like AI Culling, new masks, and some enhanced distraction removal tools. As usual, I’ve put together a video that shows you everything that’s new. Enjoy!

I love teaching and photography... In that order. I feel that enjoying photography, and photo editing can get WAY too complicated. So my personal mission (and favorite thing to do), is to create education that simplifies the process of taking great photos, and how to edit them to get the results youโve always wanted.
I appreciate your descriptions of the various features in Adobe, etc.
I appreciate, as well, the clarity with which you present your material.
Thank you
Thanks for your work
Matt, I saw your presentation on the Photoshop Summit on removals (Great Stuff) but I have a question. You said the built in Reflection Removal is not that useful but I was watching Glyn’s presentation on AI and when he was talking about eyeglass glare I got to wonder if Reflection Removal tool would work for that. Currently I do not have any images with glass glare but you might have resouces or friends (Terry White or Glyn) who do. Expiring Minds want to know.
Hi Bill. It is not meant for eyeglass reflections. Thanks.
Under assisted culling, I wonder if it will work for wildlife?
Hi. Check out this video: https://mattk.com/i-had-to-turn-this-lightroom-classic-feature-off/
The stacking feature will, but culling is not meant for wildlife.
After upgrading to v15, lightroom is not finished writing metadata changes into XMP on quitting. How can I fix this?
Hi. You’ll want to contact Adobe for any tech support issues. It’s not normal behavior and not something I can fix. Thanks.
Thank you, Matt. One (I hope simple) question. I was watching a Brian Matiash overview video of the updates to Lightroom (I use Classic but was interested in Lightroom implementation of the new features) and there was an option in the Interface preferences to set the color labels to “Vivid.” I could not find a similar Vivid setting option in LrC. Is it there and I am just overlooking it somehow?
Hi Bill. That option doesn’t exist in Classic. Thanks.
I found your video on LrC updates very useful and I do like the way you explain the features. Thank you.
Once the catalog is updated/upgraded, can I delete previous catalogs? They do take up a bit of space!
I installed this version, but I experienced some issues that forced me to revert to the previous one. The drawbacks I noticed were: low performance and a failure in the cropping function, as the photo deforms when trying to crop it. However, the final result is still acceptable.
Hi. Sounds like a graphics setting or graphics card update issue. And definitely sounds like a good reason to contact Adobe Tech Support.
Hi Matt – I thought of you immediately when I heard about the new culling feature. I would think this would be perfect for birds in motion photography, where you are shooting in burst mode. Typically you will have many images and only a few in focus.
Can you comment on that?
Hi Joanne. Assisted culling is meant for portrait photographers in this early phase. What you’re probably thinking of is Auto Stacking. I think that could help especially with the “similarity” idea. But assisted culling is there to help you pick the best and worst of a photo shoot. To me, that doesn’t translate to bird photography and I’m not sure that it will get to that point for me. But who knows? I just know picking my favorite shot isn’t the problem and it’s not something AI can help me do. But stacking “bursts” together so I can pick the best of that burst… absolutely. I think that would help. Thanks.
Unable to import pictures from my SIM card into lightroom following the update
Any suggestions how to fix this issue ?
Hi Matt, When do you think sky replacement will be introduced to LC
Hi Matt, When do you think sky replacement will become a feature of Lightroom Classic?
Hi Roger. I don’t have any idea. Selfishly, I hope never. Sky replacement means layers, and layers mean complication and a whole slew of other tools that every sky replacement would need. LR and LRC are simpler than Photoshop and I’d rather it stay that way personally. Thanks.
Hi Matt, thanks a lot for that!
Can you bring up a short video about the auto-stack? I never seemed to understood why would I want to stack in the first place, and I guess that if Adobe went through the trouble of adding this feature – I am missing up on something important…
For example – if I create a panorama, or an HDR, I would normally keep only the resulting DNG, or maybe some of the panorama originals, but not all. Why would a stack be helpful there?
Thanks!
Hi. You stack to reduce the clutter of the large number of photos so that they’re more manageable by looking at them in smaller groups. It’s not required. Just one of the many features we have that most won’t use. If it doesn’t “click” with you then no need to do it.
Thank you Matt!
Thanks Matt great video explained well!
Thank you so much, Matt! Appreciate you!
Thanks for the update, Matt.
Does culling work on bird eyes?
Matt, great job as always — clear, succinct and to the point. Keep it up.
Very interesting thanks. I had the warning to update the whole suite so thatโs what I did. However once done I could not see the star ratings Iโd previously assigned to my images! I engaged Adobe help assistant and he/she was very helpful in making them reappear. But I have no idea where she went when she took control .
On restart my Mac told me that the Scratch disc was way below the recommended 100 Mb. But no indication of how to fix it!
Can you advise please?
Hi David. I can’t as I don’t know what the Adobe support person did and only they’d be able to help. Thanks.
Great
Matt, thank you.
Thank you Matt!
As always, very useful information you provide with this videos
