Hi there! This week, I set out to create a video to show you what “Remove” option is best in Photoshop. We have the Remove Tool in the toolbox (essentially a brush) – and then we have the Remove Button in the contextual taskbar (requires a selection first).ย
Well, the results weren’t quite what I expect as you’ll hear in the beginning of the video, but I still think the nuances of what I found out in my testing makes the video worth watching as this is a popular question about 2 highly powerful tools.ย Enjoy!
PS: Don’t forget to sign up for the FREE Lightroom Virtual Summit coming in September 2025.

I love teaching and photography... In that order. I feel that enjoying photography, and photo editing can get WAY too complicated. So my personal mission (and favorite thing to do), is to create education that simplifies the process of taking great photos, and how to edit them to get the results youโve always wanted.
Very informative
You’re right, worth the watch to see the closeup comparisons of the options available! Gives us a background for future reference. One method doesn’t fit all applications. PS sure has gotten powerful overtime!!
Thanks for taking the time for this.
I just came back from a trip that included a number of very populated areas and what I found when I wanted to remove a large number of people, the remove brush did not work well even when I used the select people option. The remove option in the task bar however, worked extremely well. I too have found using the remove brush often leaves a line and I then have to remove that as well. I have found that for limited and specific situations, the remove brush works fine but for more complicated things or larger groups of people the remove tool in the generative ai works best.
Great information for consideration, Thank you.
Thanks Matt, very informative.
Thank you Matt, very interesting!
How do the remove options compare to generative fill?
Excellent!
Really well explained – thank you!
Hopelijk heb ik eens tijd om hier naar te kjjken
Succes allemaal
I love your videos.
I use the patch tool to select. I have the option of using the patch tool to remove or use the content aware tool (made an action as a one-button shortcut) or remove on the task bar.
I’ve recently started learning Microsoft Edge. Looking forward to learning from this video.
What about Content aware fill?
Your bird photography and videos are great.
Thanks. Very helpful!!!!
