Hey everyone! I’m really psyched to announce my upcoming “The Ultimate Lightroom Course“. I’ve literally poured everything I know into this course, and I truly believe it is my best work in Lightroom yet. It really is the ultimate course on Lightroom and (while I may be biased), it is the best Lightroom training on the planet. There’s a quick teaser video below.
Right now I’m putting the finishing details on the course, and it’ll be up for sale next week. I don’t want to give away too much, other than to say it’s really the only Lightroom course you’ll need. I’m calling it a “course”, but it’s got 15 sections in it. It’s like having 15 courses in 1. And I used the feedback all of you have given me. It is by far the most comprehensive training on importing and organizing catalogs that I’ve ever seen – anywhere! And I’ve never seen anyone cover backup, sharpening, the web, and printing like it’s covered here.
So here’s what’s going to happen. If you’re part of my email community, then you’ll start getting notifications on it on Friday. I’ve got some free bonus videos I’ll be giving out via email (trust me, you don’t want to miss these). Only my email community will get the free bonus videos. So if you’re not part of the email list, then you can sign up right here.
Note: If you sign up and you get an error message it just means you already signed up and it won’t add a duplicate. The error message should be more clear, but my web skills…. well… let’s just say they’re not as good as my Lightroom skills are 😉
Next, there will be a bunch of launch week only specials happening where I’ll have a deep discount on the course. But more than that, I’ll be offering freebies that won’t be available later – things like weekly live webinars to ask questions, presets, etc… Again, only my email community will get that as a thank you for following me. After that, the course will go into the store at its normal price.
Sound good? Sweet! Well, I’m gonna get back to work. I have a HUGE list of things to wrap up this week, but I’m honestly having a blast doing it because I know how much it’ll help the Lightroom learning process. Thanks!
Two comments:
1. I’m new to photography and new to LR. Never had time until I retired. I use to watch your videos on PSE Users site. So sad they are no longer, but learned there what a great teacher you are. After a photo trip to Utah I am just now catching up on the videos. THANK YOU. I’m just now getting into the development part, but what I have learned so far was worth the price.
2. I still use PSE to create digital scrapbooking pages to present my family history and coordinate a users interest group at our genealogical library. Do you know of any training that is so thorough for PSE on understanding all the parts of the PSE interface? I’m working with real newbies to the program. We are all genealogists, most are very new to digital scrapbooking. When PSE Users closed we were given the opportunity to download all their back issues, but I was in Spain, walking PARTS of the Camino, so could not get a decent connection that lasted more than about 30 second. Do you know of any way to secure a copy of those back issues?
I love your course. I’m learning so much. Thank you.
Hi Matt,
Thank you again for an excellent training course. I have looked at other training courses being provided and never seemed to connect the dots!
You have provided an excellent product that will without question provide me the benefits of understanding how to be productive with my Lightroom program (2015 CC).
Sincere regards,
Steve Raub
Hello Matt
How much of this course will include 3rd party plugins? How much of this course will include Photoshop?
Thanks
Hi Jason. Very little. It’s a complete Lightroom course, but there’s no way I could cover all of the plug-ins.
There’s about 190 short 5-7 minute videos here. Of that, 3 videos cover Photoshop and 1 video covers how plug-ins integrate with Lightroom.
Thanks!
What if I am wanting to edit my pictures for personal use and printing, such as family events and vacations, will this course help me or is it geared to “true/professional” photographers? I am very new to the editing process. Thanks.
Any update this morning. Still getting issues in the UK
All fixed!
I had the same exact problem 12 hours ago. Tried again and Just downloaded everything seamlessly. I would try again. It is 9/23 at 1:40 pm EST and everything seems to be going smoothly
Hi Matt, is your LR course ready yet?????
Hi Toby, it is here – https://mattk.com/lightroom/.
Yeah Matt!!! Good for you….love, love your videos and that you have short ones, long ones and that you have offered so many free ones over the years! You have a wonderful teaching style that is clear, concise and interesting! I’m excited about your new course…have already learned tons watching your free preset video! Thank you for offering a class that we can download and use over and over to make our organizing easier, pictures better, and workflow faster which ultimately makes our clients happier!
For all of you out there, I highly recommend Matt’s Lightroom Course…. I know he will totally make it worthwhile for us!!! He’s an amazing instructor!! …now if only Matt were offering a “WordPress Course” I would be taking that too lol….
Thanks so much for your kind words 🙂
Not sure I’m your guy for wordpress though! LOL!
Hi Matt – I’ve been a fan of yours and a follower for several years now. I spent the time to become very comfortable with Photoshop and then tried to integrate LR into my workflow. I’m using the latest version of Adobe CC and am struggling with learning LR. I just don’t find it intuitive, believe it or not. So, I’m really looking forward to your new course.
From the earlier posts above, it sounds like this is the week you will be releasing the details with pricing. Is that right? Keep up the great work. -Paul 🙂
Hi Paul – yep, the course (and all details) will be released on Thursday Sept 22. Stay tuned 🙂
Thx.
I’m staying tuned in!! It’s 9/22!! Are you ready to go???
Yes, after a few bumps in the road we are on our way 🙂
I can hardly wait for the course!
I bought a couple of your Creative Live courses and watch them over and over again, always getting something new from them.
Just watched the sneak preview about overdoing things – love how you teach
Thanks Lynne! 🙂
Hi Matt. I love your teaching style but I already have the Lightroom bundle that you made for ON1. I find it fabulous. Would I have a reason to buy your bew bundle? Convince me. Thanks.
Mike in lovely Quebec.
Hi Matt,
Im sure this has been brought up before, but here goes…. Why wouldn’t Adobe just combine Lightroom and Photoshop into one program, “Photoroom”? after all, I typically use Lightroom to organise, but do all my edits in Photoshop and its various plug-ins.
Go ahead and convince me please.
Respectfully Matt,
Steve
Hi Steve. I think the main reason deals with the fact that Photoshop was created for EVERYBODY. Graphic designers, illustrators, web design, t-shirt design, UI design, you name it. It’s made for everyone and it happens to have some cool tools for photographers. But for photographers to learn those tools, PS has a steep learning curve and it’s very difficult. Plus, if Adobe made it more photographer friendly, then all of the designers in the world would revolt. So… they made LR. For photographers. It’s not a designer tool, or for an illustrator or web designer. it’s for photographers plain and simple.
And it’s MUCh easier to use than Photoshop. So personally, I’d hate to see them combined and then end up with a huge unmanageable tool like Photoshop made for everyone. People would have a difficult time learning it, and I think it would do a dis-service rather than help.
There’s my rant 🙂
I fully agree. That is one reason I love On1 is because it does a lot of the things I did in photoshop without the learning curve of Photoshop. I hope it’s on your agenda to do a course on that at some point…
I love it Matt. You’re creating an “Apple Release”-like movement with the new course.
I am just curious nothing more. I have been a fan of yours for years, and you have been my primary source for LR education, although I have some other materials from folks like Evening, Long and Schewe. Why and when did you leave NAPP? I quit several years ago because of the Adobe CC issue.
Hi Larry. I left NAPP back in 2014. I wrote about it here: https://mattk.com/10-rumors-why-matt-left-kelby/
And I wrote about starting my own business here: https://mattk.com/update-new-adventure/
Thanks! 🙂
Matt, I got your Ultimate Guide to Lightroom Course last year as part of the ON1 Plus membership. How different is your new one?
Hi Carl. It’s got more in it when it comes to organizing and catalogs. It’s got LR Mobile. And some more personal stuff. That said, it’s not a huge jump from what you have. If you’re a plus member, you’re probably good. I see you’re on the notification list, so you’ll get my emails next week. You can check it out and see for yourself if there’s something in there that you want. Thx.
Maybe this course will be too advanced for me! I don’t even see a link to register for the class! DID see the “mattk,com/lightroom” url in the vid. That allowed me to sign up for “updates/news” about the class, but still nothing about costs/dates/etc. At least I did NOT get the ‘sign up erer’ thing! 😉 Perhaps I should just cool it until “late” September? LOL!
Take care and keep working on those videos!
Hi Jim. There is no link to register yet. I pre-announced the class (hence the title “coming soon”) 🙂
If you pre-registered with a real email, you’ll get an announcement when the class comes out next week.
Thanks!
Will you be sharing a comprehensive back up plan? Will it involve any cloud type storage options? Anxious to get started on your lessons. See you at the GSMPS in October.
Hi Dave – yes, I have an entire section on backup. It’s about 10 lessons and goes over the entire process. I do share what I do for “cloud” storage too. Thought it’s probably not what you think. But it’s the most complete Lightroom backup videos I’ve ever found 🙂
Hi Matt looking forward to your new Lightroom training course.
I’m so excited and can’t wait. I do love watching your videos!
Matt if we buy this course well we be able to go back until we learn it well or will it be here for just a certain time.. i am a slow learner,, thanks i am looking forward to it.. it will be one of the first courses i buy .. thanks for your help Janet
Hi Janet – when you buy the course you will physically download all of the course files. They’re yours to keep and refer back to as much as you’d like. No subscription. You own ’em 🙂
Hi Matt…. please be sure I am signed up. I have supported you since the beginning at Kelby. I’m not going to stop now. I really hope this is very successful. I’m all in.
Ah, thanks buddy. You are indeed signed up on the list and you’ll get emails starting tomorrow. (probably more than you want) 🙂
If there was another person better than Matt at teaching Lightroom his name would be….. yep….that’s right….Matt.
Thanks buddy! 🙂
Hi Matt
Will your course be a good grounding for The Adobe ACE Lightroom accreditation?
Many thanks
John
Not really John. While some things may apply, ACE certifications are more about knowing how “Adobe” wants you to do things and things they think are important. This course is more about what I think is important to know, and how I do things. That doesn’t always coincide with what the exam would cover. Thx.
I am really really new to Lightroom 5 . Is this for me or will it be too advanced?
Hi PJ. This is meant for beginners. Advanced Lightroom users already know everything 🙂
Matt…
This release notice came at a good time. I’ve been using PS CS6 for awhile, with the last couple years using it with Blake Rudis’ Zone System. With my purchase of a new Sony a7RII, it’s time to move to PS CC2015.5. I always had a curiosity about how LR compares to PS. The BIG question: “Do I really want to learn a whole new post processing workflow?”
If I can speak greedily for a second… Yes! Yes you do! 🙂
Honestly Rick, I’d say if it’s not broke don’t fix it. If you’re happy with your workflow then don’t change it. I love Blake’s stuff. I often use it with some basic Lightroom edits first. And, Lightroom offers the organizational aspect too. So you can still do your editing in Photoshop, but maybe organize in Lightroom, use Lightroom mobile, etc…
none yet
Will the instruction also apply to Lightroom that I have on my computer or only to the web version?
Hi Renee – there is no “web” version of Lightroom. I think you’re referring to the CC “creative cloud” version as the web but its not web based at all. You still download and install the software on your computer.
But… this training will work for Lightroom 4 and above. Maybe about 10% of it uses newer features in the CC version, but most of it is workflow and applies to all versions. Thanks!
I’ve been looking a complete Lightroom course and I’ve always liked Matt’s teaching style. I would need to be able to access it on my own schedule.
Great to see you back in the saddle Matt.
This is where you truly belong. Your timing is impeccable I have been searching the net for a great womb to tomb study in Lightroom.
Looking forward to getting more organized and creative.
Thank you Matt.
Soooo, how much will this course cost?
Impossible to sign up !!!
Hi Matt:
This is what I get when I try to sign up for your email notifications:
We’re sorry! Something went wrong. We were unable to add your email to the list. Please try again later.
That’s because you’re already on 🙂 You Signed up August 18th.
The sign-up should come back and tell you that but it seems that part isn’t work. Thx.
That’s great on the 30 day guarantee. I just posted this blog URL on my student forum at the New York Institute of Photography. Hope you get a lot of sign-ups from it. Usually hits between 100-200 photographers. As soon as your course is out I am on board! Best, Chris
Sign-up is not working.
Can’t disagree with anything you said, but I can rewatch Matt at Kelby and on one. That’s why I wanted Matt to address my concern since I don’t have unlimited funds. Matt’s is probably the best LR instructor out there. I just want t make sure there’s enough new content to justify the purchase.
Jack, that makes total sense. Maybe Matt will give us a sneak peak. In the above video I saw a few things already that usually isn’t covered such as the sharpening mask. We’ll see what Matt says! Best, Chris
Also Jack – I’m going to offer a 30-day money back guarantee. So if you get it and it doesn’t have enough new content you can get your money back, no questions asked. And no hard feelings. My wife handles the money-stuff, so I won’t even know to sabotage your camera if I see you out shooting 😉 LOL!
Have watched all your LR video at Kelby and OnOne. You are the best. Great videos.
How will this be different. As much as I love your videos, how does it justify the cost of a new LR? In short, what’s new?
Love your photography and videos.
Hey Jack, I can help you answer that. I have purchased almost every Scott Kelby book, I have all of Serge Ramelli’s video’s, I have read the Glyn Dewis books, Corey Barker, you name it. I have also watched every Matt video on LR. No matter how many times I have covered these materials on each new thing I get, I ALWAYS learn something new that dramatically changes my workflow for the better.

Even something that was mentioned in earlier studies that I didn’t catch. In all of my experiences, I find Matt to be the clearest and simplest teacher to follow and while I am not getting a kickback (unless Matt want too – LOL) I would highly recommend getting Matt’s course. I certainly will be.
–
For me It is the number of times through the materials which give me results. And if your job or life depends on producing high quality photographic products, you can’t loose by skipping a few movies and buying new material 🙂 Hope it helps. Chris
Hey jack. I’ll start with what’s new. I scoured the Internet for import cataloging and backup info and I can tell you hands down there is no place that put together the info I have here.
It’s also one of the most complete resources on printing and web sharing (way beyond just LR web module, but all of the online hooks LR has too).
All that said, I think about photography training the same way I do about golf. Golf isn’t my job it’s my hobby and I have limited funds.
Years ago I took lessons from someone. Taught me grip, backswing etc… Every now and the I’ll be at the driving range and hear an instructor teaching and decide that some thing he said clicked a different way and I’ll take a lesson from him. Does the grip change? Nope. But the combination of what he said sticks in a different way with me and is worth it.
But… If you’d rate yourself a 7 or higher in Lightoom now, this may not be the course for you.
Hopefully you understand I haven’t done a Kelby course in years. Lightroom is my specialty so I needed to make a course in my “home” so to speak. It won’t be for everyone right? If I did my job well years ago, then I’ve already shown many how to use LR. But there’s new people that need training all the time and I’ve put together what I think is the best course for that anywhere. Thanks jack! 🙂
I am just curious nothing more. I have been a fan of yours for years, and you have been my primary source for LR education, although I have some other materials from folks like Evening, Long and Schewe. Why and when did you leave NAPP? I quit several years ago because of the Adobe CC issue.
Hi Matt –
I attempted to sign up to an email account and got a message that there was a problem. Could I have signed up before and already registered?
Yep, you’re already registered. Thanks 🙂
Can I join your email community?
