My buddy Brian Matiash and I arrived in Las Vegas yesterday, rented our car and started our way toward Death Valley (after an In And Out Burger stop of course). It was already getting late in the afternoon and we didn’t think we’d make it in time for a sunset shoot so we pulled over at the first cool thing we saw. It ended up being these clouds in the distance. They seemed to perfectly funnel their way in toward the open area where the sun was. It’s not very Death Valley-ish but we didn’t really get into DV until it was almost dark.
The photo was taken with my Nikon D800 and Nikon 16-35mm lens. It was processed in Lightroom and finished off in onOne Perfect Effects 4 with some Tonal Contrast, color presets and a vignette.
As I write this I’m about to get some sleep to get ready for a long day. We plan on starting out at some sand dunes and who knows what the rest of the day will bring. I’ll make sure I post some more photos as I get them though. Have a great weekend!
Seeing the photo of your gear in the Airport Airstream, did you also carry a tripod on your trip? Have you found any airlines that allow a tripod to be strapped to a carry on camera bag?
Awesome… hope you have lots of fun… by the way… share your thoughts on your D800 now that you have had it for awhile… 🙂
Really nice, Matt. Hope you guys have a great time!
Matt, could you please write a few words about the settings you used in OnOne’s software, particularly about the strength and Blending Options you used in Tonal Contrast? Best regards to Brian …
Terrific clouds Matt. Death Valley is on my “must shoot” list. Can’t wait to see your images.
Lose the clouds and it looks just like a shot from a Mars rover.
Thank you Matt for sharing, I have the OnOne Suite and really enjoy the presets with the Perfect Effects 4.
Hey Matt, thanks for the update and photo. I just purchased the onOne Perfect Effects Suite, I am still trying to work my way through it. Would you do a video showing the processing of the image with Perfect Effects 4,Tonal Contrast, color presets and a vignette? Thanks – Jim
