What do they have in common? The fact that they’ll all be together and I’ll get to hang out with (and near) them for a few days. I’m thrilled because I just booked my trip to Jackson Hole, WY and Grand Teton National Park in late September. The Grand Tetons have been on my bucket list for a long time and I’m finally getting out there to shoot. As an added bonus, two good friends of mine (Jeff and Randy) are hosting a workshop there at the same time, and they’ve brought Dave Black on to teach lightpainting. Even better, if you’re a Kelby Training subscriber you’ll be happy to know we’re sending a crew out to record another lightpainting class, with Dave, for Kelby Training Online.
Any Cool Photo Spots?
Now, I know I’ll be shooting at a bunch of the well-known usual spots, but if you have any special recommendations I’d love to hear them, so please leave a comment. I’ll be there for a solid 4 days and I plan to get a lot of shooting in so I’ll take any advice you’ve got.
There’s Still a Few Spots Open in the Workshop
The workshop is almost full, but I think there’s still a few spots open if you want to attend. Here’s the link to the website to find out more. And if you can’t make this one, you should definitely try to make a workshop with Jeff and Randy in the future. I’ve heard rave reviews about them. These guys have been out there teaching photography for years and they know how to do it right. Trust me, you’ll be in good hands.
Have a good one!
Just seen that Pete Collins is there now. Perhaps you and he will share your findings, I’m hoping to go in September 2013.
Angel Falls hike is a nice 1/2 day…start early..a few water falls on the way up…be awhile since i’ve been there…but so much to shoot…and maybe a 1/2 days snake river trip…is really a “dry” trip…

This web site has two photo maps of the Tetons and Yellowstone. They can be helpful to find photo spots. John

Jackson is by far my favorite spot to photograph. So much opportunity. Make sure to catch the sunrises; there is always a morning mist, you will see a lot of wildlife, and the light is so soft and dances off of the mountains.
I know it’s an obvious one, but you really must hit Colter Bay Marina during a sunset. I’ve never been disappointed.
I’ll send you a link of the shot I took 3 years ago at that spot:

Enjoy the trip!
Hi Matt, a correction to my first post. It a General Store not a gift shop. Make sure you go behind the store and get a Tetons reflection in the window. Sorry for all the posts. I post some shots on my NAPP portfolio. – Dennis

Matt,
I’ll post a few of my shoots on my NAPP portfolio so you can get an idea of potential shots. – Dennis
Matt, sounds like you’re going to have a great time in Grand Tetons National Park. Make sure you check out Jackson Lake. Many opportunities to get Mt. Moran other than the Ox Bow shot. Many sail boat opportunities. Also, there is an old cabin gift shop off the snake river by the visitor center great opportunity. Also, hike up to hidden falls, it’s worth the time. Check out Jennie Lake and the Transfiguration Church. The meadow behind Jackson Lake Lodge is outstanding especially at sunset and sunrise. Moose shots at the area around the lodge. You’ll have a blast and I can’t wait to see your photos!
