Hi everyone. Every fall, Adobe releases new updates to all of their apps. This time around we have some new features in Photoshop as well as Lightroom, so we’ll take a look at exactly what’s new and how to use it.
PS: Don’t forget to check out my What’s New in Lightroom Video as well (Click Here)

I enjoy your tutorials very much and find them very helpful. Keep the. coming!
Matt – I have an earlier edition of your Photoshop tutorial. I’d like to get the updated version because of all the new AI info, but have a question. From time to time, it’s useful to me to review some of the basics which I might not use for a while. When I get your new Photoshop tutorial, does it also have the basics or should I hang onto the old verson for that? Best, Tom
Hi Tom. The course is mostly updated and the “basics” part of it doesn’t ever change. No need to purchase a new course. Thanks!
I notice in the latest photoshop the file save dialog is locked in the upper left corner. In previous versions I was able to move the dialog and it would stay where I moved it to. I know that is a little thing but it bothers me. Can you help me with that Matt??
Hi. I’ve not experienced this or heard of it so you’ll have better luck contacting Adobe for help. Thanks.
When you click on any tool or layer adjustment etc could you zoom in on exactly you’re clicking.
Thank you for your PS 2025 video. I noticed in the video G Tech storage units on your desk. I am an aviation photographer with thousands of images and need a better way to store my images and retrieve them when needed. Have you considered a tutorial on storing images, and how to set up the storage units?
Hi Don. My Lightroom System has info on that as well as the Fresh Start program I did in early 2024. So at this point I won’t be doing anything. That said, my system couldn’t be simpler. First, I don’t use those drives anymore. I wrote more about it here: https://mattk.com/photography-computer-and-monitor-recommendations/
Next, I put my photos in to a folder called Photos and descriptively name the folder based on what the photo shoot was. That’s it. 🙂
I just downloaded and installed the update. The right tools panel looks different to me (although I could just be sleepy :p ) What changed? Can I go back to the way it was before?
Wow! These are some great updates! Thanks, Matt, for another informative tutorial! This is why you are my favorite!
Watched this video and as a result bought the How To course. Haven’t done anything in Photoshop yet but some of the videos I have watched from the course has already improved my Lightroom editing.
I found when using the Remove tool on the updated Ps that it left a solid colour blob (sometimes quite a prettily-coloured blob) after application. I Googled the problem and found (quote follows):
“This has happened a few times where some users experience a solid color as they try to brush on the Remove tool.
You may be having a problem with the Image processing part of this tool. It’s easy to check.
Try this method and see if it goes away:
Go to Preferences > Image Processing…
Choose “More Stable” for Remove Tool Processing.
RESTART Photoshop (Photoshop > Quit Photoshop, then relaunch).”
It worked.
Can I delete Photoshop Beta if I have upgraded to Photoshop 2025?
Yep.
I updated my iMac today to the new photoshop 2025. Now I get a message every time I want to open up photoshop that macOS 14.6.1 or later is recommended for maximum performance. I know you said address some issue with Adobe but it seems my iMac is a 2017 iMac with 27 inch screen. Can I do anything more to update it or is it about time for a new desktop.
Hi. You’d have to contact Adobe for any hardware or software related issue.
did you find an answer? Mine is doing the same.
Matt, Thank you for another helpful tutorial on new PS tool features. I do have a question. When using the move tool, whether in auto or generative AI, is the imagery generated full resolution or web resolution only?
Thank you, as always! I hope you and your family are still doing well during this crazy hurricane season.
Jan
Hi Matt,
Thanks once again for the timely updates.
You mentioned asking you to address some issues, and I was wondering if you would consider a short video tutorial on how best to remove flashgun shadows in portraits. Despite my best efforts to photograph my grandchildren, I occasionally get these types of shadows.
Regards,
Michael
Hi Michael. Hope all is well 🙂 I don’t really know of any techniques but feel free to email a photo over and I can take a look.
Michael, to eliminate or minimize flash shadows, the flash needs to be higher and directly above the lens. This will allow the flash shadow to fall behind and lower to the subject. Stroboframe had a wonderful bracket which may be discontinued now but allowed just such a set up.
Thanks CK, Yes I agree prevention is always best, and have done so on many occasions, but as I said sometimes I get caught out.
Michael
I like you can now select not to use generative mode on the remove tool especially, this is important for all who are entering Photography competitions where AI generative fill is not allowed in any shape of form. It’s making hard work for photographers in photography clubs these days and even harder for myself having to judge competitions. Thanks for the info you always make good clear instruction and ideas.
Really clear explanation of new features. Thank you for putting this together
Hello,
I generally run my raw photos through Topaz AI which then out puts to a tiff fomat. Can I use the Photoshio denoise on that format?
You missed talking about the new Adobe Adaptive profile in ACR.
I did. Sorry 🙂
Thanks Matt.
Unless I have misconstrued information on my Creative Cloud site I suspect many will find it necessary to update to Windows 11 AND spend large sums to update hardware in their computers in order to install and use the new update.
I love your videos. I would like one on selecting subjects with feathers, fur, or hair that is all over the place. Thanks for sharing your expertise.
Mary
I did my update but, I don’t have the options on the top like you showed for the remove tool .
Is yours a beta version?
I thought we were all getting this?
Hi. It’s not a beta. I would Double check you have the right version open.
Matt,
Always appreciate your videos and keeping us updated on changes to Creative Cloud apps.
There is one issue I have struggled with in LRC & Photoshop. That is trying to remove a shadow on a portrait. I have tried the content remove feature and using a luminosity mask but have not been able to remove the shadow without being obvious. Can you help with that if I send you the image ?
Happy to give it a try.
Thank you for taking the time to make these videos and to share them out. I always find them extremely helpful.
Thanks as always Matt great new information. You did a great job presenting !!! Thanks Dale
Love these updates!
Can you do a workflow on getting your iPhone pictures to Photo Shop for editing?
Thanks for all your content!
John
Hi John. In this video I airdropped it to my laptop. But my “Edit on the Go” course will show a Lightroom workflow with your phone if you’re interested.
You and Blake Rudis are my go-to’s for how to use Photoshop and Lightroom as well as post processing ideas. I really like these short videos with updates and tips. Very helpful. Keep up the good work!
Thanks, we all appreciate your help.
Thanks for the Update. Will you be doing an update on Lightroom Classic, please?
Yep. It’s linked above. Thanks.
Thanks!
