Hi all. There’s a new podcast episode that I just released. Don’t forget, there are 3 episodes so far:
Episode 1: Beware of Photography Advice
Episode 2: Deleting Photos is Good for the Soul
Episode 3: Is AI Killing Photoshop?
Episode 4: Adobe Pricing Changes
Also, if you haven’t seen my Adobe 2024 Lightroom and Photoshop Update Learning Center, click here. I have videos that cover all of the new features in Lightroom, Photoshop and Adobe Bridge.
Episode 5 Topic – Adobe Max Week and New Updates
In Episode 5, Brian Matiash to joined me again. This week, we give our thoughts on all of the Lightroom and Photoshop updates that were announced at Adobe Max, as well as our ideas on what future updates may bring.
How to Listen/Watch
You can listen to the podcast on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or Google. Or you can watch it below.
The podcast is NOT intended to be visual in any way, so all you’re doing is watching the two of us talk and nothing else. But if that’s the way you prefer it, feel free. Personally, podcasts are something I listen to when I have nothing else to do, or to keep me busy while doing something else – so I never watch them.

PRO TIP: I typically listen to podcasts on my phone while driving or in the gym. And I usually set most podcasts to 1.25x – 1.5x speed to get through it faster.
Since this IS NOT A TRAINING tutorial, and it’s just us talking, I think you can speed us up and get through it faster so feel free to give it a try. I can’t help you find that setting, but again… most podcast apps have it so poke around. If you can use Lightroom and Photoshop I have no doubt you can figure out how to use a podcast app ?
I love the podcast. I subscribed the moment I heard about it, and no regrets since. Now, time for my opinion because everybody has one: Lightroom is not ready for primetime. Slow and sometimes unresponsive. I just had to force close it just now. Seems my M1 MacBook Pro would handle it easily. Oh, well. Back to LRC. Meantime, keep up the great work, guys.
Hi… Definitely an interesting comment. I’ve heard thousands of times LRC is slow. You’re the first person I’ve run in to that says LR is slow. Been using it for 6 months on my 2021 Mac Laptop, looking at folders with thousands of photos, and it’s instantly snappy in everything I do. If it’s slow, you may want to check the Preferences > Performance settings and make sure you have it set correctly for your graphics card. I realize everyone has their opinion, but to say it’s not ready for primetime could be misleading to people. It’s been a “primetime” app for 6 years now, and definitely improving at a rate faster than LRC is or ever will again.
Ep 7
I think the problem you guys have is that your world is the newbie, not the veteran user. A new feature comes out, and as soon as you put out a video on how to use it, I’m done. I understand it and can put it to use. Thank you very much. The catalog question goes away once a user starts using LRC, it’s not a problem anymore.
Yes people should be using some type of cloud backup. But if you already are, you are backing up all important files on your computer. So again paying for something that only does half of what you should be doing.
Denoise was slower on a 75mp file in Mobile on an M1 computer.
You asked what would Adobe need to do to make one switch. History, virtual copies, preview window, histogram window and clipping warning, the ability to switch the keyboard short cuts to LRC style. Changing the keyboard short cuts was the stupidest thing Adobe did.
There is a gotcha if you are going to try using Mobile. All of your edits don’t sync to LRC like a shared collection.
Photoshop….What’s that, does anyone still use it?? I know they do, I have graphic design clients that have never gotten into Lightroom. LRC is so good that I have been thinking of uninstalling it. The last thing I did in PS was to do a crop and resize to see how much I could crop a M11 file before I could see a big enough difference. I sold a lens that did not provide enough of a difference that a crop would not cover.
Hi Matt. Interesting Pod Cast. Little concerned to hear both of your thoughts regards the future demise of Lightroom Classic. We have all invested a great deal of time and money into learning Classic, looks like we will have to start again and learn the CC app. Are you planning to create some online learning for us to help us switch?
Hi. I think we’re getting a bit ahead of ourselves? Didn’t I say 7-10 years? Truthfully, by that point I’ll be over 60 and hopefully thinking about winding down and not creating more training 😉
But I can pretty much guarantee you that Adobe would not make you start over. The other LR version is far easier to use and way more intuitive. I’m sure when the time comes (and I don’t think that time will come any time soon) that you’ll have a very clear path and my guess is that you’ll want to move over to the other LR version before anyone forces you. I wouldn’t lose sleep over this one.
As someone who recently made the switch to LR from LRC I totally agree with Matt that it’s actually fairly easy. I did purchase Brian’s course that Matt mentioned and that certainly answered a ton of questions that I had. I searched online and there just aren’t any tutorials that really cover LR where it’s at today. Having the ability to browse your local files and edit them in LR desktop is going to be huge. I currently need a mobile solution so despite being a PC user, I bought an iPad Air for photo editing and it’s working out great. I thought I’d miss it’s the large monitor, but being able to edit photos anywhere makes it totally worth it. As LR desktop is pretty comparable to LRC, I do plan on getting a small laptop like a Dell XPS so I can take full advantage of LR over LRC. For now the iPad is working great!
Thanks for clearing up Lightroom vs LightroomCC.
Great blog. This is the first blog that is discussion based. You guys touch on things that I have forgotten or never used. I now take notes when listen to each blog.
I really like the comments on how people or you guys are using different features. Very insightful. The HDR, Bridge and Classic vs LR conversations were all fascinating.
I have been waiting for a conversation group like this for years.
Thank you, Jim
Adobe Lightroom will take a huge leap if they allow thumbnail uploads to the cloud from the local storage (as done in LR Classic),
Another interesting (relatively) talk from two great instructors. The following question pertains what was mentioned at 41:14 in: how much stuff is already out there that has been claimed to have “changed everything?”
Simple answer – every company that has a marketing department!
